The multi-instrumentalist Yusef Lateef(1920-2013) was recorded live at Pep's Lounge in Philadelphia on June 29, 1964 with a superb quintet including Lateef(tenor saxophone, flute, oboe, argol, tambourine); Richard Williams(trumpet); Mike Nock(piano); Ernie Farrow(bass) & James Black(drums).
The nine memorable tracks feature six Lateef originals, one from James Black and compositions by Benny Golson & Victor Young. Highlights include Lateef's 'Nu-Bouk' featuring his earthy flute, the beautiful tenor ballad 'I Love' and Benny Golson's 'I Remember Clifford' which is a vehicle for Richard Williams.
'Live at pep's Volume Two' is an enjoyable and varied album which displays Yusef Lateef's wide-ranging musical talents.
