5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful sound, 25 May 2004
By A Customer
when i first went to see the film, it was a choice between this and 'the runaway jury'. the people i was going with wanted to see the all-star cast of 'the runaway jury', and i being an avid reader of the classics, and an admirer of colin firth, wanted to watch Girl With A Pearl Earring. Naturally i got my way, and we all enjoyed the film immensely. but what i noticed most about the film was its beautiful music, captivating each moment perfectly and providing a wonderful soundtrack to an amazing film, creating such depth to the film. this cd gives you the same feeling it gives whilst watching the film, but i would also recommend listening if you haven't seen the film, as it is a beautiful soundtrack to any emotions. buy it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Girl With A Pearl Earring is one of Alexandre Desplat's best film scores., 7 Jan 2010

(VINE VOICE)
He may have earned himself an Oscar nomination at the beginning of last year for his score for 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' but I still think that his score for 'Girl With A Pearl Earring' is among some of his best and finest work. Having seen the film when it first hit the cinemas back in early 2004, this score complimented the film so superbly that I just had to get it. It works well even on its own as well as with the film. The composer's ability with the music to transport the listener back to 1660's Holland, where the film and the book it's based on is set, is exceptional.

Whenever I listen to this wonderful soundtrack, I envisage the locations and sights and what it might have been like in the time of Johannes Vermeer when he painted his masterpiece painting. The music is light and airy during the brighter sections and sometimes sombre and dark when the mood darkens. One of Alexandre Desplat's best scores by an earth shattering mile in my book. Well worth a listen.

It doesn't matter much if you've seen the film or not, the music alone is testament to the composer's genius and talent. Comes highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Both the Book & the CD Are Qually as Enthralling., 25 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Both the book and the cd are equally as enthralling and compliment the dvd film beautifully. The repetitive music is hypnotic, making it wonderful to relax to. I wanted the cd as soon as I heard the accompanying music to the film. The book doesn't actually give that much more away than the film, which is unusual, but it's still a great read.
