5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably good album, 6 Jun. 2009
This review is from: One for the Road (Audio CD)
I cannot believe that this album is not hailed as a classic. If you like the swaggering rhythms of the Faces but prefer something with a little more depth, this is the album for you.
Ronnie Lane did exactly what he wanted to do musically, and was subsequently forgotten about. Even now after 'The passing Show', the people who have heard of Ronnie Lane will probably associate him with a very pastoral sound, epitomized by slow songs such as 'Annie'. These songs are nice but in my opinion don't compare to the combination of power and thoughtfulness which is caught on One For The Road.

5.0 out of 5 stars If only ......, 7 Jun. 2012

This review is from: One For The Road (MP3 Download)
If only more people listened to this album. I had it fresh from the press as a student at the time and thought it wonderful. Life being what it is, the album ended up in a friend's collection when I graduated and I didn't see it again until this year (2012).

The testimony to the album is that it sounds as good now as it did then. Rose tinted spectacles do not apply. From start to finish every track delivers to a rare consistency of music to lose yourself in.

I am a fan of Ray La Montagne so if anyone likes his music then I am sure that they will love this. This album predates Americana by a long time, but should be in the annals as its birth.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Underated Talent, 19 Feb. 2010

Anyone who was lucky enough to see the Faces in the early 70's will realise what a special atmosphere was generated
at those gigs plenty of booze and good time rock n roll soul and blues.
Ronnie Lane left when they were massive worldwide to pursue a different path and this album is an excellent statement to that miss this at you own expense.

4.0 out of 5 stars Neglected!, 7 Sept. 2012
This review is from: One For The Road (MP3 Download)
This is a side of British 70's rock still unseen after all these years. Not prog, metal, heavy, glam, new wave, nor punk rock. Why is it so great? Ronnie was the sidekick in the Small Faces alongside Steve Marriott and in the Faces alongside Rod Stewart. History will see him differently. Spiritual, rootsy British music, attached to rock tradition instead of mainstream folk. There was nothing like this Spiritual Boy,ever. 'Great Spirit, brew me up a storm!'

5.0 out of 5 stars classic lane, 6 Mar. 2013
This review is from: One For The Road (MP3 Download)
I saw Ronnie perform all this material at 'friars' in Aylesbury in 1976, it was an absolute superb gig with great music and everybody having a great time, this is a classic collectors album as can be seen by the price it is fetching on other sites. Ronnie has gone but great albums like this will remain for ever.

Bought this on vinyl when it originally came out, then lost it somewhere. Spotted it on Amazon, downloaded it and it is every bit as good as I remembered. A sadly missed talent. Brilliant album.
