Really hoped it would be better!
on 4 April 2013
I was buying an eye mask for a night flight, and also to stop me waking up with the daylight in the morning. Having read the reviews and description, I was really hoping this eye mask would do the trick.
The eye mask looks great, it is thick too and made of nice material.
Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. The packaging says 100% light protective, but no matter how I adjust it I get light coming in from around the two foam pads. They are shaped like little fat rolls, but with flat ends. The light leaks in around the sides. If they were contoured I think they would block out all of the light. Also maybe I just have a big nose but the space in the middle between the two rolls is too small for my nose, which lifts the mask up even more.
Still, I thought I can live with a bit of light leakage, it was still better than other masks I've used, so I have since tried sleeping in it. Despite sleeping on my back the mask moves up my face in my sleep. With the eye masks I've used before this wouldn't matter, but with the two rolls of foam on this mask, it does. The foam rolls end up sitting on the softest part of my lower eyelid. Not only is it sore, it's given me dark circles under my eyes. It disturbed my sleep, I was constantly waking up to pull it back down.
I've decided to try to cut the foam to try to shape it better for my face, I will probably end up taking most of it away.
I really hate to give this two stars but an eye mask that makes me sleep worse than no eye mask at all isn't really worth paying for.
