5.0 out of 5 stars Great songs from a classy duo
The line between jazz and cabaret is a fine one, but they particularly overlap where an artist like Claire Martin is concerned. She phrases her songs superbly, but she has the mind of a jazzer, always bending melodies and sometimes even elongating words. 3.0 out of 5 stars well, one out of two isn't bad...
I really like Claire Martin. I have more of her albums. She's gorgeous, talented, and her music is crystalline in clarity. I know he's well reputed. But...I prefer her, thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great songs from a classy duo, 13 Oct. 2009
The line between jazz and cabaret is a fine one, but they particularly overlap where an artist like Claire Martin is concerned. She phrases her songs superbly, but she has the mind of a jazzer, always bending melodies and sometimes even elongating words. On the other hand, Martin is equally at home in a swank cabaret boite as she is in a jazz cellar, and her collaborations with supperclub maestro Richard Rodney Bennett have received rapturous reviews. Wherever you place her, Martin is an exceptional singer, with a warm, rich timbre and an unfailing sense of swing. She has recorded several fine albums for Linn Records, but this is her only duo recording, and she couldn't have a better partner. Bennett is a true advocate for the finer songs in life, and I sense his taste on this album, particularly when we hear Martin tackle such specialities as "My Mood is You" and "Baby, Don't Quit Now". She really is fautless throughout the programme, and Bennett also turns in a splendid performance, playing his customarily rich piano arrangements and singing in his rough-edged, appealing voice. He also gets to perform a really magical forgotten song, "Not Exactly Paris".

This duo have worked together now for several years and their mutual respect and affection is evident. Jazz, cabaret, whatever it is I like it a lot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, beautiful selection of songs., 10 Mar. 2009

This was my first Claire Martin CD, and pretty much the first jazz CD and it delivered. First two thirds are pretty fast flowing, with each track being distinctly different. CD slows down towards the end, which isn't really my idea of a jazz, but is a good part of the whole recording. Claire's voice is superb and I fully enjoy it mainly in the faster sounding songs. This SACD has a really fresh sound and won't dissapoint anybody who likes a good sound performance.
