5.0 out of 5 stars The most fantastic arrangements of the most fantastic music!
These CDs take some of the best of Bach and Mozart's music and arrange them for around 8 unnaccompanied voices. The virtuosic performances leave the listener awe-struck and spell bound.
For those not used to this type of instrumental music it is also an accessible way in to a whole host of magnificent pieces. Any choir will aspire to sing like this and should hear...

The background to the singing was not pleasing. Trying to imitate instruments or whatever they were trying to do, just did not work for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good selection of music, beautifuly sung, 11 April 2006
By
williamajcole (Winchester. England) - See all my reviews
The track that epitomises this album is track 7 on the Bach disc - the chorale prelude for 'In Dulci Jubilo'. The voices, perfectly in tune (as always) descending in scales beautifully while the tune rots the whole thing down. Just...stunning. The Swingle Singers are probably the best a capella choir in the world and this shows through with the enemble, intonation and unique sound in a class of its own. The range (especcially of the sopranos) is awe-inspiring, and the arrangements are top-notch. Not expensive, and will leave you reeling. Other highlights include:
Bach - "Wachet Auf" Chorale Prelude
Bach - "In Dulci Jubilo" Chorale Prelude
Bach - Badinerie
Bach - Little Organ Fugue
Mozart - Magic Flute Overture
Mozart - Ave Verum
Mozart - String Quartet Finale
Mozart - Finale from Horn Concerto No. 4 (wonderfuly jazzed up!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly Amazing, 26 Mar. 2009

This is utterly amazing. I stand amazed in the presence of skill and talent like this. The Swingle Singers take these familiar works - often orchestral - and use the human voice to reproduce orchestral sounds. It must often involve not tones and semi-tones but quarter tones and I know not what else. Yet all combine to create unified sound of great beauty and refinement. A few purists may cavil at this treatment of familiar works; I find it entrancing and often very moving. Others may find this an attractive gateway into the works which hold their joy in store for them. The voices are very beautiful individually and collectively add amazement to beauty. Whoever made these arrangements for vocies is a genius. Will give hours and hours of delight.

4.0 out of 5 stars A blast from the past, 5 Mar. 2013

This review is from: Bach Hits Back - A Cappella Amadeus (MP3 Download)
OK, so after a while this album can be a bit 'samey', but there's no denying the technical and artistic quality of the signing here. It's also a double album and was a bargain. The Swingle Singers are still going, although the line up changes over time, they still manage to produce innovative a capella readings of classical music. This album features the line up from the 80s and 90s and will take you back to some of the sounds that you might remember from then - I'm sure Kenny Everett used one of their arrangements in his TV show! If you don't go back that far, then this album is still well worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant disc at a great price, 15 Nov. 2010
This disc was the most value-for-money disc I could find by the Swingle Singers, and I've greatly enjoyed listening to it. The singing on the disc is almost universally mind-blowing, and it's great to hear them do what they do best - especially the Bach, but bits of the Mozart CD are equally stunning. If you've not got a disc by the Swingle Singers, this is certainly a good place to start, and would make an excellent gift too.

A collection of great calming music presented with the Swingle Singers' accustomed style and skill. Don't put it on to play in the background, it deserves to be listened to with your full attention.

Not an album I would listen too - doing nothing else. A good album for dinner parties and as such has been commented on several times since we played it.
