5.0 out of 5 stars Two brilliant albums from 1960, 4 April 2003

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (No. 1 Hall OF FAME REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Typical of Julie's music, these two albums are filled mainly with romantic love songs from the Great American Songbook. Julie always covered songs that suited her style, regardless of whoever the original artist was.
On these albums, you will find covers of songs that were originally hits for Johnny Mathis, Doris Day, Peggy Lee, Libby Holman, Kay Kyser, Dinah Shore, Sammy Kaye and Harry James, to name just a few.
These albums do not contain anything to surprise Julie's existing fans. Her early albums generally featured sparse backing, while her later albums featured a fuller sound. The second of these albums suggest the start of the transition.
If you enjoy Julie's music, you will find that these albums live up to expectations.

5.0 out of 5 stars JULIE LONDON AT HER BEST!, 5 May 2010
By
Robin (London, England) - See all my reviews
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This splendid 2-in-one CD presents two of Julie London's best albums in one package. Julie herself is on top form throughout and she is given only really good songs to sing. On Julie At Home, allegedly recorded at Julie's house, she is accompanied by some of the best West Coast jazz musicians including Jimmy Rowles on piano. On Around Midnight she is supported by a big band with arrangements provided by Dick Reynolds. Dick Reynolds is not a well-known arranger but his work here is excellent and his "voicings" are original.

This CD comes from EMI, the original distributor in the U. K., and should not be confused with various unofficial, possibly "bootleg" products currently cluttering the market. The sound quality of this CD is beyond criticism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Julie London - At Home and Around Midnight., 31 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Two excellent albums of Julie London, being issued on one C.D. I already have the original L.P`s and now I can preserve them and play the C.D. I suspect other collectors will be doing the same thing.
