This review is from: An Tobar (Audio CD)
An Tobar seems to have been overlooked by the majority of the music media and many folk fans and for the life of me I cannot work out why. The record is 43 minutes of dreamy but smart instrumentation. Aidan is the dynamic fiddle player best known for his work with the live powerhouse that is Lau and Marin Green from the band also features.

The record is a loose concept piece centred on the Tobermory Arts Centre and each of the 5 tracks connects to this institution. Each tune features a raft of talented guest musicians playing everything from harp and saxophone to the bodhran. The record is complex and to get the most from it you need to listen, this is not a CD that rewards if you stick it on whilst talking rubbish with your mates over a glass or two. However listening on headphones whilst reading the Sunday paper will delight, like few other records I have encountered in the last couple of years. Magical stuff.

Oh, and the packaging is wonderful too!

There should be another genre for music such as this, the 'folk' label doesn't do it justice. Another fantactic album!
