5.0 out of 5 stars Real Scottish talent!, 18 Nov 2009
This review is from: Skimming Stones...Sinking Boats (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of Iain's music for quite a few years now and I always look forward to his new music. This cd is a great representation of his talents: singing, song-writing and the pipes. In particular I enjoy the track "Skimming Stones". The music is beautiful and the lyrics weave seamlessly into the background, an Iain Morrison specialty as is evident in the tune "Away with the Faeries" on his previous cd.
The addition of Lee Patterson, well known to many Edinburgh gig-goers, on the track Sinking Boats is just superb.

To anyone dithering, give it a try and be amazed and if you are IN Scotland, check him out on the live circuit. He is a friendly and open artist with real talent, something very rare nowadays!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 27 Sep 2010

This review is from: Skimming Stones...Sinking Boats (Audio CD)
I bought this on a whim and i can't stop listening to it, the music for "skimmming stones" is utterly amazing. It gets right into your head and won't come out. The lyrics and the music place images of hope, desperation, beauty, wilderness, traquility and human kindness into your mind. The "Ghost of Eriskay Causeway" is haunting and a real foot tapper as well. Great album, truely great album.- so far 49 listens on my i tunes and still not tired of it.

After buying this and listening to it have even tracked down the "Crash My Model Car" albums which are also great and his other solo album. How come this guy isn't more famous? Buy this you will love it

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Album, 9 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This album contains the wonderful 'Broken Off Car Door' that was one of the tracks covered in Iain's Transatlantic Sessions (Search on You Tube - amazing recordings with a host of amazing mu8sicians backing Iain on a number of his songs). However, the rest of the album is made up of a range of different musical styles. If I'm honest I prefer his guitar stuff to his pipe music (e.g. Tar the House) but even these tracks have their own charm and appeal. I already own 'To the Horizon, Sir' and it's great to be able to go back to his earlier albums to see how his musical path has developed and matured.

If you are already a fan of Iain's music you will love this album - if not, then give it a listen and be prepared to be blown away by the offerings from this talented musician. Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album -but Amazon do not have this in stock!!!!, 15 Mar 2013
This review is from: Skimming Stones...Sinking Boats (Audio CD)
I ordered this CD -the '1' they have in stock over 3 months ago and it still hasn't arrived. They are 'waiting on it coming in' -so its not 'in stock' at Amazon S.A.R.L as they claimed!!! Which is a damn shame because Iain Morrison is a fantastic artist and his music is amazing. This album is astounding as I have it on digital download and wanted to get a 'hard copy'. I'm giving up on Amazon SARL and their frequently god awful delivery times and astronomically bad customer service and getting it directly from Iains website. NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER

5.0 out of 5 stars genius., 21 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had the privilege of seeing Iain live in Cardiff a few weeks back, and thought he was wonderful. I have since bought this as a gift for a friend. I have had a listen myself, and genuinely think that this is the most wonderful album. its traditional and contemporary, moving and beautiful.

if you like good music, you'll love this.
