This CD features two LPs recorded probably in the late 1950s or early 1960s. The double LP CD was released in 2003. The tunes are well-known standards and most are played in a gently romantic tempo, though one or two tracks are up-tempo. If you enjoy the dance music of this era this selection is ideal. Music For the Fireside includes Paul Weston's own contribution to music composed for a contest to find vocalists run by Capitol Records in 1949. The winner was a Doris Schaefer who added words to Weston's melody to give us the rather lovely `When April comes again'. The other tunesmiths who contributed melodies or `Songs Without Words' were Johnny Mercer, Isham Jones, Ray Noble, Jimmy McHugh, and Jay Livingstone and Ray Evans. Music for Romancing is also in stereo while Music for the Fireside is monaural.

Paul Weston has accompanied Doris Day on many albums which has produced some of her best recordings. This album does not dissapoint lovers of the Big Band era. As the title sugests, Paul Westons arrangements of his music is perfect for old and not so old lovers to romance by.
