5.0 out of 5 stars Heroes on this album though!
The Stranglers released two albums in 1977, both of which had a plethora of tunes full of dark energy, musical genius and humour. Rattus Norvegicus tested the water, and once they got away with that, they recorded this album without fear.
EVERYONE knows the title track, but there are plenty of other great songs here. Growling bass, thumping drums, swirling keyboards...

3.0 out of 5 stars .
Not my favourite Stranglers album but the title track is worth buying this for. Some of the other tracks sound very dated now.

The Stranglers, No More Heroes, caught up in Punk but already living the moment show all the others how it is done Stark, Violent and Aggressive all the tracks that never made Rattus Norvegicus, The Stanglers were already way beyond the image of Punk they lived the violence and bloody mindedness of the times no wonder all the other punk bands hated them, all but meer pretenders

It has been over 20 years since I owned a vinyl copy of this album which I have at last replaced on CD. I had forgotten how dangerous and upfront the lyrics are, with songs about alienation, nubiles, school mistresses et al! Definitely not for the faint hearted! Yet through the brashness, the band could honestly be described as truly melodic - well constructed songs and glorious swirling keyboards from Greenfield. This album cemented their reputation as the bad boys of the era, but it also set the standard for other bands to follow. Classic stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic, 26 Oct. 2014

Their second album produced within a year of the first and possibly even better.

Every track is a classic, and pushed the boundaries of punk into progressive New Wave.

Very, very highly recommended, worth it for the title track alone.

Bought this on vinyl many moons ago! Decided to update and bought this cd. Still like Hugh Cornwell and JJ snarling away. A complete band with everyone contributing, love it!

Loved it before and love
it now too, sounds great with 'modern' equipment, evocative of strange but wonderful times, brilliant.

Edgier than Rattus, more raucous than Raven, this is an underrated album with a number of great tracks - enjoy!
