This amazing FTD CD release features a hell of lot of Elvis for your money: Elvis Presley's 1974 Summer festival is the stuff of legend- the "King" was still firing on all cylinders performing 90 minute shows which included karate moves and long monologues.

Disc one is the 19th August 1974 opening night performance featuring rare live performances of "Down In The Alley" and "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues"- great barrelhouse fun and bluesy-some of Presley's best ever tunes! Also included is the Chuck Berry penned rocker "Promised Land" another Presley cracker!

Disc two features the August 21 show and Elvis is in fantastic humour- great songs include: "It's Midnight, " "I'm Leavin",(the dialogue before this track is brilliant & will certainly make you smile) "Polk Salad Annie" - and "Fever." If your an Elvis fan your love this release, it's just gorgeous, a great digipack with good artwork - this is Elvis in Las Vegas showman mood wearing cool leather and suede suits bought by his cousin, (Elvis mentions this on disc two).

However, the sound is not perfect but perfectly acceptable - in 1974 Elvis was cooler than an Amazon warehouse full of refrigerators-and for Elvis fans this FTD CD is absolutely essential.

This is probably the best FTD release in some time. The highlight of the two CD pack is the first CD with the opening night of 19 August 1974 giving fans chance to hear rare songs being preformed live by Elvis, notably Down in the alley, Good time Charlie's got the blues and If you talk in your sleep. The quality of the sound is much better than previous FTD releases. I would recommend to all Elvis fans to get this excellent double CD as Elvis is singing great, in fine humour and certainly enjoying singing. A delight to listen to over and over and over!!!!!

Well...this just has to be one of the very best RCA FTD releases ever, and certainly features two of Elvis' most eclectic shows!
The sound is what you'd expect from a soundboard recording (very boomy and low-fi) but who cares...when you get songs like (Down In The Alley, Charlie's Got The Blues, and I'm Leavin' are performed with Gusto and his usual brilliance.

These songs were rarely performed live, and for that we must be thankful to the sound engineer for twiddling the knobs on the night.

I doubt if RCA will ever match this live cd ever again.
Go buy it now.

Oh come on people who have given this 5 stars,ok its Elvis but dont just give it coz its Elvis.Im elvis mad, listen the first cd,is missing the 2001 theme,im sorry but that doesnt cut it when thats left out.Elvis sounds very sad with his interludes of speech almost dosed up with meds id say, but, and this is a but, when he sings,he certainly puts everything into the tracks, its almost a jeckle and hide performance,he sounds down when chatting but he bangs out the songs brilliantly. The sound isnt a brilliant sound board recording and its almost as if the audience numbers about 8.The second cd of this is a slight improvement,I give this cd 3 stars for the very rare inclusions of BIG BOSS MAN which is in the vein of his earlier polk salad annie performances of the early 70s,yet again pretty poor soundboard verging on the bass,so you need the treble, right up.Its okay and a pleasant listen but certainly no 5 star collection.
