3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat disappointing
BTF productions produced some 450 films over their 30 odd years, and personally speaking those from the 50's & 60's are by far the most interesting. So why BFI release those from the late period whilst so many earlier titles remain unseen is to say the least disappointing. The early films have a unique charm so often missing from those of the late 70's & 80's. "It Takes...

Pure nostalgia. A wonderful trip to a bygone age and remembering some of the fashions then was an added bonus

This is a great item and I would most certainly recommend it to others.
It is worth every penny paid for it.

Once again, an excellent compilation of old BTF productions. I would draw particular attention to the training film about lifting. It is bizarre to say the least and had me giggling hysterically.

It looks as though we are near the end of the BTF offerings as I see they are now selling, 'The Complete British Transport Film Collection' As it runs to nine discs it would seem to confirm my views.

All in all a wonderfully evocative collection of films and a must for anyone who loves 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's nostalgia. You don't need to be a transport buff to enjoy them.

So why BFI release those from the late period whilst so many earlier titles remain unseen is to say the least disappointing. The early films have a unique charm so often missing from those of the late 70's & 80's. "It Takes All Sorts" (1978) is typical. Attempting to be humorous it merely appears crass & staged & the frequent swearing (bloody) is extraordinary & one suspects, would never have been permitted had Edgar Anstey been producing. That apart we can be grateful for 9 new additions that once again transport us back to an earlier & altogether innocent period.

These DVDs (we have the entire set) are wonderful little gems. You really don't have to be into trains to appreciate them, but if you have like recent history you'll love them. Some of the films are a bit more techy, but even then the way they're shot, the voice overs...just make them appeal to everyone. Our little girl loves sitting down to watch these films of yesteryear when she's taking a break from watching Shrek and Kung Fu Panda..

Not the best of this series by a long shot. For me only two short
films, "Berth 24" on disc one and "Away for the Day" on
disc two, were worth watching. I shall think very carefully
if volume 10 ever appears, on the basis of this one I probably
would not buy it.
