This box set is great value, as it contains four excellent Westerns. As usual with box sets the films are a mix of true classic and slightly lesser films but all of these films are worth your while.
One of the major plus points in the set is that it includes the two-disc set of Once Upon a Time in the West. This happens to be my all-time favourite Western and the dvd treatment is excellent featuring an audio commentary with Sergio Leone expert Christopher Frayling as well as others including John Milius, John Carpenter and Sheldon Hall. This commentary is well worth the time if you are into the film as Frayling explains many of the references to classic Westerns which Leone inserted. So, if your knowledge of early westerns is as patchy as mine, then this feature will prove useful.
True Grit is another good film. It is obviously best known as the film for which 'The Duke' - John Wayne won his Oscar. His performance is memorable as the drunken, violent 'Rooster' Cogburn. Kim Darby's performance as the teenage Mattie Ross is also memorable. Unfortunately, Glen Campbell as La Boeuf isn't so good. Still, a fine Western, and I'm also looking forward to the Coen Brothers' remake coming this year.
The Sons of Katie Elder is a somewhat lesser John Wayne film, but no less entertaining. The film is exciting and entertaining with a fine Elmer Bernstein score which is reminiscent of his classic work on The Magnificent Seven.
The Gunfight at the OK Corral is an entertaining, fanciful retelling of the classic Wyatt Earp/Doc Holliday story. Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas are first class leads and the film is directed by John Sturges who went on to make The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape.
When I bought this the list price was just £5. You couldn't ask for better value for money, especially considering that Once Upon a Time in the West is the two disc version!

First of all Amazon might want to correct that this box contains 5 discs. Once upon time in the west is Special edition.
You have here 4 classics two by Henry Hathaway, one by Sergio Leone and one by John Sturges (The Great Escape). Amazing value, not to be missed by any western lover.
