I like Simon Pegg, I genuinely do, but this is the wrong vehicle for him. Doubtless this was an attempt to make a USA friendly film for him to launch his career over there. But most of the jokes don't work, the set-pieces are weak and a storyline that is one big hollywood pot-boiler cliche; I won't add a spoiler, but you can probably guess what happens yourself after about 15 minutes. Sadly even Pegg seems a shadow of his former self and Jeff Bridges is totally wasted and not in his frequently entertaining way. It'd be only worth one star were it not for some decent one-liners, but that's about it. Deeply disappointing.

Based on the memoirs of British writer Toby Young, and starring our own Simon Pegg as an arrogant journalist who relocates to New York City in a quest for fame and fortune, this film takes a very British kind of humour and sets it in a film with very Hollywood sensibilities and featuring well-known faces such as Jeff Bridges, Kirsten Dunst and Gillian Anderson. Pegg's cocky loser shtick palls after a while and the film's attempts at satirizing the media world are flat and uninspired.

I deliberately avoided reading reviews before watching this film,to avoid any preconceptions, but I now see that a lot of others share my views. I'm not a particular fan of Simon Pegg, partly because I think he's capable of being much funnier than he is, given the right material and direction. That certainly doesn't happen here, and for the first hour or so nothing much happens at all in this transatlantic brit-flick. With such a poor script, and no visible storyline, the responsibility for attempts at humour lie with the many attempts at slapstick comedy, most of which ironically fall flat on their collective faces.
It's only in the last half hour that the pace picks up, things start to happen and some laughs finally ensue, but it's too late by then. Even Kirsten Dunst looks peeved for most of the film.

A weak comedy which doesn't really live up to the advertising promises. The plot is certainly thin and the whole thing is only mildly funny; not worth buying unless you have a penchant for this sort of thing.

Saw the trailer for this, looked quite a funny comedy, great cast so we rented it out.
The first half sets the scene for some right slap stick laughs, with Simon Pegg being a lowly film critic for his own film small budget magazine.
He ends up being dumped in the deep end when he gets headhunted for a big USA film mag ( with Jeff Bridges as the top man)that sucks up to the film industry and its stars, which Pegg character can't deal with
Its all going along quite nicely until Kirstin Dunst appears, then this turns from a comedy to a rom com( thats romantic comedy). For me Kirstin Dunst always plays the sad doey eyed unlucky in love character, and its no different here.
This film takes a big nose dive half way through, as the relationship between pegg and dunst changes from i hate you to I love you( if you think this is a plot spoiler I can assure its not, as you could see it happening s soon as the two got together).
Jeff bridges is truly wasted in this, hard any lines in it. Gillian Anderson plays the part well, but i wish she brought some aliens with her as it would of livened things up a bit.
Nothing original here, and quite frankly the last 1/2 an hour was very drawn out.
Some good moments in the film, but patched together with a very iffy love story.
One for the girls maybe( though my girlfriend thought the same as me), but not one for the boys (except that Megan fox is in this ).
Disappointing

A few funny parts but showing the end of the film at the start made it rather silly .

THE FILM IS NOT VERY GOOD, I ONLY BOUGHT IT BECAUSE MEGAN FOX IS IN IT, SO IF YOU DON'T LIKE MEGAN FOX AVOID.
