5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime, stress relieving saximphony!, 1 Feb 2002

This is still, in my opinion, Kenny G's best album so far. It features the multi-platinum single 'songbird', and is the ultimate definition of relaxation. Personally, I think of it as travel music in the sense that the songs give a feeling of movement and escapism, and with some superb vocals to accompany his uniquely marvellous sax playing, Kenny G has created the must-have CD for anyone who appreciates musical perfection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Duotones - Classic album by one of the best.., 17 Feb 2013
This review is from: Duotones (Audio CD)
Just have to write a review for this fantastic album as it seems so few have bothered to do so - this being a classic album of its genre and even though it has been a while since I last listened to this CD, it still sounds as good and relevant today as it did when it was originally released back in 1980's!

In my opinion anyone who considers themselves a 'Smooth Jazz' aficionado absolutely must have this in their collection as it represents a seminal album of its kind.

My favourites are songbird, which from the opening notes takes me to another place far away from the troubles of this world and really just makes me happy to be alive - awesome!

I also like 'Don't make me wait for love' with the sublime vocals of Lenny Williams. 'Champagne' and 'What does it take (to win your love)' are other notable tracks which shine ebuliantly and reminds me of what an amazing talent this guy really is - after all he didn't manage to sell over 50 million albums worldwide by accident. In truth though every track on here stands out on its own.

If you haven't already got this album then what are you waiting for? Just do yourself a favour, drop everything, go and get your hands on a copy now - I promise you you won't regret it!

If you want to hear what Kenny G is capable of, this is the album to get. Uptempo and satisfyingly good. Highly enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars For Adult Contemporary fans, not jazz fans, 17 May 2003

This is very typical Kenny G all the way through which means serious jazz fans will trash it and MOR instrumental fans will mostly like it.
Kenny G's audience do like the seductive, even schmaltzy style of his, the very same style which turns off those looking for innovative and highly skilled improvisations.
The argument as to whether this is jazz or not is a never ending one, and I personally wonder who really cares. It's the sound and whether or not you're tuned in to the sound or instead are irritated by it...that's what matters. And the sound is a distinctive one, whether you like it or not. Also, it's rather an unvarying sound, so there's very much of a "more of the same" feel to his CDs.
So in this particular case, my four star rating is basically cautionary. You might find this a great CD or you might find it to be trash, and the probability is that you already pretty much know whether or not this is your cup of tea.
