5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous!
I didn't see Ladies in Lavender at the cinema, but I rented the DVD one rainy afternoon and I loved the music so I was very pleased to see there was a CD of the soundtrack. Joshua Bell is an awesome violinist and he plays the delightfully accessible tunes from the movie absolutely beautifully. Very disappointed with this 'Original' Sound Track - nothing to do with the retailer, just didn't have ALL the music that was in the film. I had very much looked forward to hearing the harvest hymn (one of the reasons I bought it) NOT INCLUDED! Came to realise that Joshua Bell's music was really all appeared to contain. A little confused by the word 'Original' when...

Joshua Bell is an awesome violinist and he plays the delightfully accessible tunes from the movie absolutely beautifully. You get nearly an hour of music on the CD (it says in the notes that some of the movie themes were specially extended for the soundtrack) and it's all lovely.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Wont Tire of This One, 5 Dec 2004
By A Customer
I was dragged along reluctantly to see Ladies in Lavender and, surprisingly, actually enjoyed it.The acting was excellent and, although it was a tenuous story, it was enjoyable. However, what really overwhelmed me was the musical score. The soundtrack to this film is stunningly beautiful and very moving.I had heard of Joshua Bell, the violinist, but had never heard him playing before.I have very wide taste in music but, even those who don't tend to ever listen to classical music, will love this.It is music that you can listen to over and over again but, be warned, it does tear at the heartstrings!I enjoyed Joshua Bell's playing so much that I am thinking of buying another of his CDs to go along with this one.Do give it a try.You wont be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars a heavenly chill out, 30 Jun 2005
I finished watching Ladies in Lavender and immediately ordered this soundtrack. It truly is a lovely CD; full of violin and other string pieces that I can only describe, in a somewhat worn out phrase, as music that transports you. It is beautiful and very relaxing with a good range of known and less well-known tracks. Had a bad day at work? Kids winding you up? too much on the to do list? then this is the CD for you. Alternatively if you're planning a romantic meal it would be the perfect accompaniment, who knows where it might lead...

Fantastic music. A great mixture of exciting and relaxing music. Some very imaginative arrangments of classical greats. Every piece is composed with great thought, feeling and imagintaion. By far the most exciting and impressive piece is the "Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra", composed by Hess himself. Well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, but....., 15 July 2005

Some of the most touching music I have ever encountered on a sound track, and most brilliantly performed. But there is one big disappointment. In the film there is a harvesting scene which is accompanied by a full orchestral version of a harvesting song which we used to sing as children. This scene was for me one of the highlights of the film, especially the music. But this music is not included in the sound track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superlatives!, 10 April 2006
This is a very enjoyable film - well acted, great scenery etc - but what makes it really memorable is the music. Rather like the combination of John Barry and Mozart made the "Out of Africa" soundtrack unforgettable, so Nigel Hess's arrangements and Josh Bell's violin makes this special. If you think you already know your favourite top ten classical pieces, listen to the finale (after Paganini) and be prepared to think again!

Ladies in LavenderThis CD is worth every penny. I absolutely love the title tune and didn't realise the rest of the music was so wonderful as well. I will be playing this many times.

A feast for romantic souls.
The soft sound of the violin is Joshua's landmark and makes the heart melt.
His performance is breathtaking.
Nigel Hess is my latest, fantastic discovery.
Highly recommended to every music lover.

A beautifully arranged piece of music. Helps you unwind and de-stress. It was a great film too as far as I'm concerned.
