'G Force' is the kind of Jazz-Funk-Soul fusion album that was popular with the early 80's soul crowd. The formula being to get a great musician like Kenny G to team up with some of the hottest songwriters and session men of the time to put out an album under the said musician's name. Kenny G did very well with this set up for a few years starting with this album in 1983. Lead single, 'Hi' How Ya' Doin' was an instant club hit here in the U.K. and fueled sales of 'G Force' nicely. Kenny G actually has little to do on the track bar a bit of tootling near the end but it certainly put his name on the map. The G man does show off his skills nicely here though on 'I've Been Missin' You' and the funky title track. For those into something more typically Jazzy there's also the moody 'Sunset At Noon' but essentially the rest of the album consists of Kashif/Paul Lawrence written material that is all very nice but ultimately a little empty without a lead vocal. 'Do Me Right' is the only other totally vocal cut but its nowhere near as good as 'Hi'.

Its always hard for musicians who specialize in a particular instrument to put together a great album without great guests to bring something fresh to the party. 'G Force' is not a great album but it was an important release to the soul set back in 1983 and as such is perhaps more a record of its age.

7 out of 10.

Years before Mr G went mainstream he released, with the help of producer and singer Kashif, a couple of 80's Soul-Fusion albums and they were great fun. This first one is a belter, with some great instrumentals and guest vocal tracks offering a mix of dancers and slowies - Well worth adding to your collection if you are an 80's Groove fan.

CD was listed as Very Good but the disc has loads of scratches and the front booklet is damaged
I would grade as Good at best and that's being kind.
