5.0 out of 5 stars A cracking example of the great Chicago bluesman at his best, 12 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Feels Like Rain (Audio CD)
Buddy Guy made some great recordings during the 60s and early 70s, followed by something of a lean spell in the 80s; then in 1991 he signed for "Silvertone" and has put out a string of absolutely CRACKING albums since.
"Feels Like Rain" was recorded in 93, when Buddy was a mere 57 yrs. old and contains nine covers and two original songs. Guest musicians include Bonnie Raitt, Paul Rodgers, John Mayall, and Travis Tritt, but their presence never overshadows the great man.
This album is an example of Buddy at his best; one of the small elite of blues musicians who excel at both guitar playing and singing.
"Country Man" is one of the tracks written by Buddy, and it absolutely personifies his aggressive, scorching brand of guitar playing, while the delicate double-stop intro. to " Feels Like Rain" is worth the cost of the album in its own right. The slide playing and vocals of Bonnie Raitt on this track are also a total joy.
Other covers include Guitar Slim's "Sufferin' Mind", James Brown's "I Go Crazy", and Marvin Gaye's "Trouble Man", all performed with passion in his own unique style.
For anyone new to Buddy, this album would be a terrific introduction. The man is a genius. To any aspiring blues guitarists like myself, listen and learn!
Not a single weak track and that's rare in any album, any genre.
