This is one of those rare products that punches well above its weight. At the price it should be no more than OK. It's actually the DBs! OK there have been economies in manufacture but nothing important is missing. No 'eject' button but hey, you can use the device driver for that. No display apart from a 'power on' light but what else do you need? All round decent bit of kit!

On the recommendation of my local PC repair engineer, I purchased this item to use with my Laptop which has developed a CD-ROM fault(not visible - in "MY Computer") on the odd occasions that I need to use the CD-ROM drive. The result is a quick fix at a fraction of the cost that I would incur if I had the faulty integral CD-ROM drive fixed/replaced.

I was looking for a USB CD rewriter when I stumbled upon this drive.

When I realised it was only a CD drive and not a writer I looked elsewhere until I realised I haven't burnt a cd for years - I have a 32gb memory card in the notebook so why do I want to write CD's?

So ordered it at 4pm and it arrived at 8.30 am the following morning - super service from amazon.

Plugged it in and it works! No idea how long it will last but for the cash it makes loading media onto the laptop much easier.

small, lightweight and well built. only for cds not dvds. very quick loading with eject button and light.

you get 2 usb leads with 2 different ports and a cd setup disc but dont need it if have vista or 7.

I ordered two of these, for use with netbooks. The first one installed, but would not read any CDs. The second one wouldn't even install. I had to return both - lucky there was no problem with the refund.

I bought this a month or so ago, was eager to start using i because not only did it look like i was of good quality, it was cheap as well. I am using an emachines 355 netbook and obviously needed an external drive such as his, what a disappointment. watch your laptop battery level!

using the USB power lead drained a full laptop battery to low power warning in less time than to play an Audio CD.

I purchased this cd-rom drive so that I could re-load my MP3 player myself on my notebook. Originally my husband had done this for me from his "big" computer and all the songs were mixed up e.g. one from that album four or five from another then a couple from the first one, it was doing my head in. So I decided to do it myself also to prove that I didn't need to rely on him to do anything for me, regarding computers The external drive was so simple to use,although I panicked when I opened the package as out dropped a mini cd, I didn't need it anyway. So I plugged it and was prompted on screen as what to do couldn't have been any easier, so I afraid hubby is now redundant when I need to upload any more music and yes the songs are all in album order.I also intend to use it to install my next renewal of my computer security/anti virus etc as previously I had to download it and usually more expensive than using a disk. AND THE PRICE IS FANTASTIC.

this item would not work for me, it installed fine but the only disk that would work with it was the disk it came with, i had it on a flat surface and tried several disks.

Yep, it's a USB CD player that plays CDs for netbooks and other PCs that may not have come with an in-built CD player of their own. And as such a CD player, it's totally successful.

Not so successful as a bicycle though. Which is OK as far I am concerned.
