Please note that the version on sale is not the [yellow] adult version but the [white] Junior version of the Finis Freestyler; only the Junior version is available from Amazon, and is suitable for women up to 5' 6" as well. The version of the paddles for other adults (eg men) is not available from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for improving stroke technique, 17 May 2013
This review is from: Finis Freestyler Hand Paddles (Sports)
First, be aware that these are not the sort of paddle that you use to build strength. These are intended to improve technique, and they work very well for that. They are held to your hand by a rubber tube that goes around your middle finger, which allows the paddle to rotate and flop about on your hand. If you don't do a proper catch, or if you enter the water at a funny angle, they will immediatly either fall off, or twist off the palm of your hand. Straight away your stoke technique improves, and after only a few hundred metres of using these my stroke (and speed) noticeably improved.

If you're struggling with a smooth stroke, or crossing the centreline, or just feel like your hands are 'slipping' and not really getting a good 'grip' on the water I recomend these outright. They give you the knowledge of what a good paddle stroke should feel like, and your swimming will improve straight away. Just resist the temptation to 'cheat' and wrap your fingers around the edges so they can't fall off!

The first time I used them I could feel instantly how best to press the water back behind me. An often overlooked advantage is their weird star trek emblem shape and the protrusion that it makes behind your wrist. When your arm passes under you, you have to rotate your hip out of the way to stop the bit protruding above your wrist colliding with your hip. Of course this is what is meant to happen. You do it wrong the first time and then after rotating your hip out of way as your hand moves under you becomes second nature.

4.0 out of 5 stars Freestyle paddles style aid, 24 Nov 2013

Nice paddles. Would recommend making sure that the holes through which the rubbers fit are smooth. I recommend smoothing these holes very lightly with a round file. It seems madness that spare elastics are not available, the result is that you will end up throwing away a perfectly nice set of hand paddles for the sake of two elastic bands.

4.0 out of 5 stars Work well, but beware pool rules, 28 Sep 2013

These paddles work well, but because they are plastic my local pool will not allow them to be used in public sessions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good as a pair of paddles, not sure about the extra feature, 13 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought these having read the recommendation on a well known "learn to swim" website. The claim these paddles help to avoid cross over of your arms in front of your head as they come off your hands unless the entrance direction is not correct. I am sure my hand entry is not correct yet they don't come off. I haven't used any paddles before so I have nothing to compare them against.
