4.0 out of 5 stars A good collection, but not as good as it could have been
Franklin J. Schaffner's original Planet of the Apes is in a class of its own - superb, serious filmmaking with an incredibly strong script which manages to encompass everything from the creationist/evolutionist debate to the Hollywood blacklist (all five films feature heavy presences from blacklist victims both in front of and behind the cameras). And John Chambers'...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great package - shame about the lack of extended Battle...
It's a grat package of a (mostly) classic series of films. The image quailty is great, the audio quality is reasonable for films of this vintage and the extras are pretty impressive.

The inclusion of the original cut of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is fabulous, as it turns what was a fairly downbeat and drab film into one that is brutal and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Planet of the Apes 6 DVD Collection, 14 Jun 2011
The Dvd's arrived in good time and in good packaged condition. I have not had time to watch all of them but the two I have watched did not reveal any flaws in the dvd quality - the actual films were brilliant from the point of view a Planet of the Apes fan - the CGI capabilities of modern films may mean that 'younger' viewers (make of that what you want) find it dated in terms of cinematography - a key point for me at least, is not to lose sight of what I have derived from them including social anthropology and the role of the Amygdala in fear and panic (with its association to racial prejudice) or just enjoy it at a more superficial level.

4.0 out of 5 stars Go ape for them!, 27 May 2011

The original movies whilst now dated and lacing CGI, still hold excitement and tell a tale from a more simpler time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fate is in our hands, 19 Jan 2011
This DVD boxset has brought back many childhood memories. Finally seeing all the movies in Widescreen format was fantastic. If you like 60s and 70s Sci-Fi then this boxset is a definate must.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buy this one for your collection, 10 Jan 2012
This review is from: Planet of the Apes: 5-Movie Collector's Edition [Blu-ray] [1968] (Blu-ray)
When I was a child we used to watch the ape series with my father on TV. At that time they were like masterpieces to me. After 30 years they taste like Star Trek (original) episodes.

First 3 films are OK in terms of acting and scenario but last two films are average. In all films sound and picture quality are satisfying (blu-ray).

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit too much of aping, 4 April 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I quite liked the different approaches to a world where apekind and mankind try to make a living together. The first one of the quintett - by far the most famous one - is superb even after such a long time. The rest of it: Surely are worth while watching but do step down a bit in quality of the plot and craftsmanship one by one. Sometimes you'll feel like watching some quickly done tv series. The tricks and the stunts are quite allright. Do not measure it by more recent developments like starwars or the unforgettabgle jurassic park though. After all it is the story that counts.
The price for the fivesome lot cannot be beaten and there's good entertainment in the packet. I did not try the extra dvd because I usually don't.
