For a long time now, a lot of people are waiting for another Saint-Etienne perfect album. Time passes by and as you get older you understand that maybe the Etienne's can not provide it any more. Maybe what they have done (which was at it's peak really master piece material) is it. There will not be another grandiose CD from these talented guys. The next obvious step is to find their successors. Which is hard work not only because it is rare to find such grace but also because the question is how will these new Etienne's sound? "Stars" are good contenders for the "next Etienne's competition". They do not sound like replicants (which is good) but their pop is bubbly, smooth, angelic and still a little more 2001. It adds to the equation some drum'n'bass and a lo-fi attitude. And they even have a lead male singer who sounds fragile enough to make you fall for him (Hope he is good looking. No pictures on the cover). And there is a bonus: A brilliant cover to the classic "This Charming Man". People who can create such a surprising Smiths cover are surely worth public attention. Give it to them.
