5.0 out of 5 stars Do not dismiss!, 27 Feb 2012

This review is from: Little Joy (Audio CD)
When i first heard this absolutely lovely album I thought what a shame that the peg that anyone who glanced at it, will want to hang it on, was the fact that Fabrizio Moretti, one of the trio ,was/is the drummer of The Strokes, and leave it at that or dismiss it as a vanity project. However, Moretti not only has a share is co-writing most of the songs, but plays in addition to percussion, the guitar and piano. He is also fine as a singer (chanelling a Stroke like vibe here and there). Plus, this is very much a trio of equals. Rodrigo Amarante has a share in most of the music, and sings in Pourtugese on the lovely 'Evaporar' and Binki Shapiro's contribution on lyrics, and vocals is just lovely. The dreamy 'Unattainable' on which she sings is perfection, and its lyrics, just to read it on the page can stand up with the best written poetry. The album as a whole has that perfect flow from song to song which is also a sign of its sucess. Its dreamy bossa-like vibe just catches you out with its surprises! I bought this first on vinyl ( it is definetly an album MADE for the turntable!) and recently finding its CD on sale bought that too. Although my review is late by two years, finding that only one other person in the UK has reviewed it on amazon, I simply had to write in! I suspect with very little interest in it (just from that dismissive peg I mentioned and not from its music) there may never be another 'Little Joy' album. I hope I am proved wrong!

4.0 out of 5 stars Summer Songs, 31 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Little Joy (Audio CD)
Great album with a lovely sunny vibe running through all the songs.

Stand out tracks have to be: The Next Time Around and Keep Me In Mind.

The songs are all fairly similar however so it can get a bit samey.

But too much of a good thing isn't that bad.

This is a sweet and lovely album that sounds like a crossover between the strokes at their most melodic and devendra banhart; perhaps not surprising given the drummer of the strokes being in the band and some guesting by banhart. Very easy to listen to with a summery laid back feel, I'd recommend it.
