5.0 out of 5 stars Originals!
This is a bagain. You get all 3 movies, both remastered and the original cinema versions. I bought the box for the originals, so that I dont have to watch the embarrassing new scenes added in the remastered versions. Buy it!

1.0 out of 5 stars A re-release of the "Limited Edition" release and absolutely no improvement on the Theatrical version transfers.
I just want to provide a bit of information that is missing from the product listing, which is of great interest to many people. That is, has the transfer of the Theatrical Editions been improved over the insult that was released last time? And the answer is a plain and simple "no". I just want to provide a bit of information that is missing from the product listing, which is of great interest to many people. That is, has the transfer of the Theatrical Editions been improved over the insult that was released last time? And the answer is a plain and simple "no". The Special Edition is the same fantastic transfer as we've had before (albeit with the same bizarre discolouration problems) and the Original Theatrical Editions are still not anamorphic. Why? Well, we all have our suspicions about that.

Putting it simply, if you don't have the Star Wars trilogy on DVD, this release is cheap enough and worth getting, but if you own it and were hoping for an improvement over the previous release (no longer limited, it seems), then don't waste your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories and future excitement!, 30 Sep 2008
By Anghara (London, UK) - See all my reviews
I was seven when Star Wars first came out in the cinema, and ever since, a full 31 years, I have been hooked on the films. Now I introduce my son to them, and yaaay! Here we go again! All the memories flood back, and there is his newfound excitement adding to my enjoyment of what had to be one of the best ever trilogies put up on the big screen.

It isn't just the movies, but having the option to watch either the digitally remastered version, or the older version that I remember better, is a great thing. From the special effects, to the fantastic cast, the scene setting opening credits, with that amazing musical sound track, the weird and wonderful aliens, right through to the pithy relationship of Leia and Han, these were truly fantastic movies, and should be in everyone's collection. Not just for the now, and those of us who remember them originally, but for the future, when we can delight in introducing others to the eternal fight of good against evil, and the story of determination, love, and hope that these movies represent.

Now, where did I leave my popcorn...

5.0 out of 5 stars The next generation!, 22 Mar 2009
I have loved the star wars films since the release of the original and time has not diminished this. I know there are star wars fans out there who have bought other remastered/redigital/rewhatever dvds for their collections, but I was just happy to find the original 3 in a boxset (and the prequel/sequel set) so that I could buy them for my ten year old who absolutely loves them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop milking it Mr Lucas ( next year Blu-Ray )!?, 27 May 2009
By Dragonlord (Cornwall) - See all my reviews
Yes the Star Wars are the best films of all time but, this is the 4th boxset on dvd of these films. Some fans will buy every single boxset that comes out of Star Wars and Mr Lucas knows this. Anyway if you have or are thinking about buying a Blu-Ray player wait untill next year hopefully we will have the Blu-Ray boxset which will be awesome!

1.0 out of 5 stars Theatricals are 4:3 & Stereo: no better than the VHS version!, 26 Jun 2009
By MaxiMoog (Wirral) - See all my reviews
This box set has the 4:3 theatrical versions with Dolby 2.0 Surround!

So it's identical to the VHS version from the mid 90's.

Also the box set has none of the bonus material as was with the single disk film 4 disk box set version.
So no copy of the excellent 2.5 hour making of documentary 'Empire Of Dreams'.

Luckily mine was damaged in the post so eligable for a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good but not good enough, 5 Feb 2009
This review got five stars purely because of the films not the product itself.

This is a good set if you don't already own the films on DVD or you want to make a bit of space in your collection as all six discs are housed in three slime line DVD cases that are contained in a nice box.

But if you do already own them and you don't need a little extra space don't spend your money as there is noting new here in the way of special features or anything it's just another attempt of Lucas Film and 20th fox to make you part way with your cash for something that you already have.

I cant see us getting anything different until the blu ray release

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories, 6 Jul 2009
By D. Quintas "Amazon fan" (Papa Westray) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I ordered this for my 62nd birthday, never too old for remembering a good film. And was really pleased to see that the memories were as I recollected. My kids had seen this and I had watched it with them, years ago. It was I remembered a film with a good story, offering hope, it had lots of adventure and movement. I know this is the remastered version, but it also has the old original as well. An excellent buy for three nights of film watching.

3.0 out of 5 stars Weak cases, 26 Jan 2009
No comments on the movies, either you like it or you don't. The problem is the packaging of that product. The 3 plastic cases were broken (the small pieces of plastic holding the discs) when I received them and it doesn't seem to be caused by the shipping.

3.0 out of 5 stars More Re-packaging of the Greatest trilogy., 9 Oct 2008
There is no need to introduce or explain the original trilogy.
Wev'e all seen them, time and time again. Ground breaking SFX,
excellent morality story-telling and wonderful music.
Of course the the first two films are five stars and of course
the Ewoks did bring down the credibilty in 'JEDI' but all in all
these films are only really challenged by Jackson's epic LOTR trilogy.

Having said all of this i'm given this 'New'? boxset only 3 stars, not
because of the films but 3 stars to Lucasfilm. George knows what we want, the entire saga (six films) on HD or Blueray. But he keeps milking the fans time and time again. He will no-doubt bring out each film of HD/BR,
and then a year later each trilogy and then finally the entire saga.
I'm going to wait for the entire saga!
