5.0 out of 5 stars For the fans
As a long term Alice fan, I had been putting off buying this compilation because I had most of the recordings on it. However, I relented because there was still a considerable number of songs that were unavailable elsewhere. The early songs are interesting and the sound quality is quite good considering the age. Though they are before the famous Alice sound was formed...

2.0 out of 5 stars WASTED CHANCE FOR REAL COOPER FANS
What a wasted opportunity this is. Sure if you like his latest stuff from 'welcome' onward then be my guest (i don't) to me Alice cooper will alwats be the Buxton/Dunaway/Smith/Bruce line up-no question. Sure you get some outtakes from 'schools out' and the NME freebie. But why not the giveaway 'nobody likes me' or the extended versions of 'is it my body/my very own' and...

'The Life and Crimes of Alice Cooper' is without a doubt, for the hard-core fan, the best retrospective of Alice's work to date. This epic 4 CD set contains at least one track from 'all' of his albums up until it's release in April 1999, plus a generous helping of B sides, demos (including some very early ones on the first disc) and previously unreleased songs. The total number of tracks is a massive 81, so value-for-money is guaranteed.

The box set is nicely packaged with a chunky, highly informative 80 page booklet filled with awesome pictures, an extensive discography, a paragraph on every song from either (mostly) the man himself or another band member, as well as quotes from fellow musicians and celebrities who are fans of Alice. This really is a true fan's delight, with a bumper batch of collectables among the most famous stuff the shock-rock God has ever recorded, all in neat, chronological order. Cheers Mr. Cooper!

Sure you get some outtakes from 'schools out' and the NME freebie. But why not the giveaway 'nobody likes me' or the extended versions of 'is it my body/my very own' and 'public animal 9' or the brilliant Toronto set in full (not the rip off that comes out periodically and isn't even all Alice, but Mitch Ryder)There's a helluva lot of great unreleased live stuff (the ABC special for a start) and this box set could of used some of that at least. I know Alice disowns the early Straight stuff, but he could of at least left his bias at the door and used this box set to give the complete picture.

2.0 out of 5 stars could have been a good one...., 17 Aug. 2011
This review is from: The Life And Crimes Of Alice Cooper (Audio CD)
...but sorry, folks, i do not find "halo of flies" here. not having "halo of flies" in this one is a great mistake. if one likes his early work, how can one just not miss this track?
am i picky? maybe...but, still..."halo of flies" should be on an AC-box!
