5.0 out of 5 stars Sing-along-a-Mondonville, 8 Oct 2009

I'm very partial to Mondonville and love the degrees of light and shade he brings to his compositions. Tracks 4 and 9 are especially good for bringing out the possibly untapped choral singer in you as you fight the wind and the waves he conjures up! The soloists also have to work hard as although some themes might seem simple initially they are in fact technically demanding. Well worth buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars rich, 7 Oct 2007
the overproductive Mondonville is not a first-rate composer (unlike Delalande for ex.), but these are among his best works seems to me; well performed as usual by AsFs - In exitu (with its shimmering sea and skipping mountin s - sic) is one of the most evocative motets of this mid-French period I've heard.

Why is this genius so little known ? A virtual contemporary of Vivaldi and others his sacred and secular compositions are divine. They are for all music lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A marvellous, musical bargain! A+, 29 Mar 2014

This review is from: Mondonville : Grands Motets (MP3 Download)
This download was a bargain at around £3 and I did have it on CD too when it first came out but gave it to a friend and never got it back again - the usual! Anyway, while the sound was ok on CD, it seems to sound even better on my HTC One M7 for some reason and I'd forgotten how glorious Mondonville's music is here. Some Grand Motets don't hit the mark for me and I tend to avoid them but this album really does, with some wonderful choruses and beautifully crafted music, you definitely won't go wrong here at this price!
