This review is from: Charpentier: Divertissements, Airs et Concerts (Audio CD)
Everybody knows at least one piece by Charpentier: the rondeau used as the signature tune for the European Broadcasting Union. On this disk, one can see just what a fine composer he was. It contains viol concerts of the type we associate with Purcell, romantic songs, and two miniature stage works: the Philosopher's Stone and the Shepherds' Dispute. If you like Purcell, you'll probably like this French contemporary.
