4.0 out of 5 stars Good Budget TV
Having purchased a 19" Sony Bravia over 12 months ago to fit in our bedroom, which we enjoyed so much it never got to the bedroom but became our family TV, (until recently upgraded to a 32" Bravia), the 19" Sony has now gone to our daughters room.

2.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PICTURE QUALITY, SHAME ABOUT THE REST OF IT!
What a disappointment! After reading some reviews, and deciding to buy a make of which nobody had ever heard, my opinion is that the SOVOS is not a good buy. The sound quality is very bad. I have resolved this by adding external speakers (plugged into the head-phone jack) and this has transformed the experience. My biggest gripe, however, is with the built-in Freeview...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Budget TV, 3 Feb 2009

This review is from: Sovos SVTV22D - 22" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview & Inbuilt DVD Player (Electronics)
Having purchased a 19" Sony Bravia over 12 months ago to fit in our bedroom, which we enjoyed so much it never got to the bedroom but became our family TV, (until recently upgraded to a 32" Bravia), the 19" Sony has now gone to our daughters room.
So we find ourselves looking for a cheap alternative, as the budget was spent on the new 32", (still very resonable from Amazon, but that's another review) So after searching the web, Comet, Dixons, Currys etc.. the only thing that came in close was the Matsui, or the Tecknica(?) from Tescos, so we visited the stores to see what they really looked like, and went back home again, then we came across the Sovos, Freeview, HD Ready (whatever that intails) DVD built in, lots of inputs, even 12 volt DC and the right price.
Product built in Malaysia for a UK company based in the south of England, and there tech department in mid Wales, How do I know this? Well after fitting the TV to my wall, setting the unit to auto search, which it did without any problems and found all the usual freeview channels etc.. Only problem was the picture, seemed to be missing the blue part of the spectrum, On analogue TV picture was great, play a DVD, picture was great, on digital, not so great.
So call the number at the back of the instruction book, got through straight away, took my number and said they would get one of the tech guys to call back. Oh dear we all thought, but no, within the hour a very helpful tech guy rang us and we went through various diagnostic settings which you won't find in the instructions, but to no avail. "Not a problem, we'll send another out to you immediatly"
Next day a courier arrives with a replacement TV, which we fitted, tuned, and have been enjoying ever since. I called Sovos back to say we are happy, and then they arranged a courier to collect the broken TV, at a time and date to suit me, which was just over a week later, excellent service.
Having lived with the TV for a month now the main problem is the slowness of the channel change, and sometimes if you don't have the patience to wait, or you want to change more than once, the TV hangs, and locks up, where you have to switch it off and on again. This only happens on digital but the lovely people at Sovos are getting back to me with a cure.
The EPG (Electronic program guide)is a little messy, offers a whole weeks guide, but as you can't record on the TV, can't see the point really. (The Sony version is a lot clearer)
Audio is a little tinny, offers 4 options, Personel, this lets you adjust bass, treble, and balance, add as much bass as you like, but without external speakers, you'r again wasting your time, Preset EQ for Voice, Music and Theatre. Theatre is the least offensive
Other than that, a great TV

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Television- really pleased, 23 Oct 2008
This review is from: Sovos SVTV22D - 22" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview & Inbuilt DVD Player (Electronics)
I am really pleased with this TV, just what I wanted.
I'd looked around at a number of others in Comet etc, but none were as good as the Sovos. This one was at a great price, and HD ready, and DVD player etc etc and fits perfectly in my bedroom!
I was impressed by Sovos, 2 year UK backed warranty was good- not many other companies seemed to offer this level of service.

I purchased this for use in the bedroom. I wanted something that did everything ie Freeview, DVD, on a basic level for a good price. This has just done that. Easy to set up, good picture, no problems. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent budget TV / DVD combi, 20 April 2009

Bought this TV / DVD combi about a month ago after reviewing many different products and after purchasing and returning a faulty 22" Toshiba combi. I thought the Sovos was an excellent buy at £240 from Amazon. Used Super Saver Delivery and it arrived in 2 days.

I have wall mounted it in my kitchen using a standard 75 vesa mount without any problems. It looks very neat and smart and the build quality is excellent too for this price.

When I initially switched it on, I was prompted to tune in the channels. It did this without any problems and all analogue and digital channels were tuned in. The remote, EPG and menus are fairly simple and straight forward to use.

My negative comments are (though I can easily live with these):

(1) the Digital picture quality is only 'ok', even after fine tuning it. The 22" Toshiba combi was far superior. However, the DVD picture quality on the Sovos is excellent.
(2) the TV has ample sound volume for a large sized room, however the sound distorts quite badly at higher volumes. This isn't such a bad thing as the problem with many other small screen TV's (inc. the 22" Toshiba) is that the maximum sound volume never seems to be sufficient
(3) the tv channel changes in the background as you scroll through the EPG and only displays information on the channels current and next programmes - my preference would be for it to show this for several channels at the same time (which is normal for most EPG's I've come across)
(4) to control the DVD player you need to switch to it first. This can be a minor niggle if say you want to eject a DVD whilst watching TV because you would have to stop viewing digital, switch to DVD mode, eject it and then switch back to digital TV

In summary though this is an excellent budget TV which has everything you need built in and comes with a 2 year warranty. Despite my minor negative comments above I would highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what was needed, 26 April 2009

After ordering arrived promptly.
Set up was very easy. It took over and did the installation pretty much on its own. Both TV and DVD worked fine with good picture. The TV has sleek good looks and fits in neatly. The sound is as ever with these type of small LCD's a bit tinny, but slightly better than the LG that I bought previously. Why can't someone come out with a 22in LCD with a really good sound system, it would be worth paying a premium, as for many people this may well be their main TV (say in a small flat). You would like quality picture, DVD and sound all in one neat package.
Couldn't find any reference in the literature or on the web site to the 2 yr guarrentee mentioned in an Amazon review.
Apart from sound a very good DVD/TV. It suited my wanting to use it for visitors bedrooms, so I straight away went to Amazon and ordered a second one for one further bedroom. Dispite being out of stock, the product still arrived ahead of the predicted delivery date.
Better sound and clearer guarrentee terms, and it would have got 5 stars.

My biggest gripe, however, is with the built-in Freeview system; this is very slow to respond and, frequently 'trips out'. Even more aggravating, the on-screen displays are so small that one has almost to be sitting on top of the set to see them. This I overcome by over-riding the built-in system by using my PVR.All-in-all; very disappointing.

Bought this Sovos TV after reading other reviews to replace a budget Goodmans Combi TV whose DVD froze! Very pleased with the picture quality on terrestial TV and with the DVD player. Switching between the various options was not as intuitive as other TVs. To change between TV and DVD you have to select the 'input' from an 'on screen' menu using the remote controller rather than just pressing a DVD/TV button. Otherwise a breeze to set up and great value.

This Tv is great if you want it for Dvd's the quality is really good which is what i wanted it for so that was good. For just watching freeview it isn't as great it takes a little while to change channels and you can't look whats on another channel without changing, also the area i live in i think has bad reception for freeview butt overall the watching quality is great and i would recommend this product! :D

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic bargain, 28 Sep 2009
This review is from: Sovos SVTV22D - 22" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview & Inbuilt DVD Player (Electronics)
After looking at many cheap TV's for my kids bedroom (Argos, Dixons, Tesco's etc) the Sovos TV seemed by far the best.
Really glad we went for this as the screen quality is much better than the others we were looking at and the kids love it.
