and my meat man is a sweet man...This is just wonderful. Fabulous performance of great songs sang with swing, wit and style. If you like Ella and Billie, this is a little like the genetically impossible off spring of both. None of the the scat pyrotechnics of Ella though - just a great singer singing great songs with a little of the worldliness of Billie. If you are swithering over buying this, don't - buy it. If you regret it, I'll be surprised. Great sounding band too, a bit like the Sinatra records of the fifties - even though I think it was recorded in the seventies...

THIS ALBUM I FIRST BOUGHT IN 70S.THIS IS ESTHER AT HER JAZZ SINGING BEST SIDE ONE WAS STUDIO RECORDINGS AND SIDE TWO A LIVE CLUB DATE .ATLANTIC DIDNT REALLY KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH ESTHER AND IN MY OPINION THIS IS HER FINEST ATLANTIC RECORDINGS.THE SAD THING IS ESTHER WAS AT ATLANTIC AT THE SAME TIME AS ARETHAS GOLDEN PERIOD AND I BELIVE MANY OF ARETHAS TRACKS IF GIVEN TO ESTHER WOULD OF BEEN SENSATIONAL AND BETTER THAN ARETHAS VERSIONS.ARETHA KNEW THIS AND GAVE HER AWARD FOR YOUNG GIFTED AND BLACK TO ESTHER FOR HER KUDU DEBUT ALBUM FROM A WISPER TO A SCREAM ESTHER WAS A DIFFICULT WOMAN BUT YOU CANT SOUND LIKE THAT AND BE MISS MAINSTREAM .SHE WAS A ONE OF AND WAS A TRUE ORIGINAL
