These recordings are superb and as stated before there is a wide well chosen selection. The recording quality is second to none. Ms Graham is a wonderful singer with a very well rounded voice. It will seem picky to some, but I think the songs would benefit from a bit more work on the French accent as this would give a little more clarity and emphasis upon the words and thus display more their meaning. That said, no one, including French singers do Hahn as well as Susan Graham.

This is an interesting idea, taking a historical tour almost up to today, through French Art Song. Compared to the German, French Art Song is undervalued and Susan Graham has done much to try to restore it to its rightful place. The songs are all sung superbly and there are some excellent choices, but some are there for curiosity value. Also if one is going to do a chronological tour why not come closer to today? I would have loved to hear her take on some Gainsbourg or even "joe le Taxi"
In the end I would have preferred the more traditional approach of selecting songs that go well together. The last few are of different mood to the first and I usually stop listening about three quarters of the way through. But the singing is wonderful. So if you like French Art Song this is for you.
