4.0 out of 5 stars Under Siege 1 and 2 - Classic action fest. (Contains some spoilers)
Ah, the late eighties and early nineties were a golden age for movies. All you needed was a musclebound hero (preferably with some martial arts expertise), a lunatic villain or two, several tons of high explosive and a script based around some impossibly implausible situation packed with lots of really corny one liners and you would have a smash on your hands...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great films shame they are cut versions
I love these films but was very disapointed to find that they are quite heavily cut. I kind over ruined them a bit.

1.0 out of 5 stars CUT VERSIONS OF BOTH FILMS, 19 Aug 2009
By
This review is from: Under Siege/Under Siege 2 [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
Being two of my absolute favorite Steven Segal films, UNDER SIEGE 1 & 2 are definitely solid 5-star films.
Both films were edited in the UK - UNDER SIEGE 1 to obtain a 15 Certificate was merely cut by a few seconds, but UNDER SIEGE 2 was practically BUTCHERED by 2 minutes - which is quite a lot.
These cuts don't make the films unwatchable, as the BBFC does a pretty good job, BUT this was released in 2007, my point being, why didn't Warner resubmit the films to the BBFC. UNDER SIEGE could have been released UNCUT with an 18 instead of a 15 - since it'll be sold along with part 2 - and under the current BBFC guidelines (and seeing what passes the BBFC UNCUT nowadays) UNDER SIEGE 2 would have all previous cuts waived, without a doubt.
If you - like me - need to have your films uncut, I recommend buying the French or Dutch prints OR the Australian prints if you want an English language DVD cover (these two films are encoded region 4 AND 2 in Australia).

Under Siege, a late entry into the action genre and starring Steven Segal, ticks all the boxes and a thoroughly entertaining action flick results. It has absolutely everything - a laconic mysterious Segal is the ships cook, but has a very different background (and a healthy tension with his superiors) that makes him the ideal person to start sorting things out when a somewhat demented Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey take over his ship. There are slimey CIA agents, big explosions, arguments with the top brass, a damsel in distress, evil men in black shirts, a threat to world peace and a ticking clock before everyone on the ship dies. Absolutely every staple of the action genre is here as Segal does what he has to do to beat the bad guys in the most visceral and explosive manner. And it works perfectly - a thoroughly entertaining film full of big fights, silly humour and large explosions has resulted and it is a great way to spend an evening with a beer and a pizza. I just love it, it is one of the best of the silly action film genre. 5 stars.

A sequel to Under Siege was inevitable. Though it never quite lives up to the original, Dark Territory does however deliver all that is required of it as Steven Segal sets about kicking some terrorist backside, this time after the train he and his niece are travelling on is hijacked by the usual mercenaries with a superweapon with which to hold the world to ransom scenario. Segal kicks, hits, shoots and stabs his way through a lot of underlings before the big fight with the chief bad guy in a satisfyingly entertaining adventure with lots of stunts, fights, explosions and humour. A decent action flick all round 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A RARE CASE OF A BETTER SEQUEL, 29 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Both of these films are fast-moving action thrillers starring Steven Seagal as a tough ex-Navy SEAL. Somehow, wherever he goes, he always ends up in trouble. In the first film, he is working as a chef on a big battleship, when a senior crew member decides to take his fellow seamen hostage to get away with the nuclear weapons onboard. It has a satisfying plot with some nice action scenes and is worth about 3star because of some slightly stupid scenes at the start where the terrorists first come in. Under Siege 2, on the other hand, is a much more exciting film, with fast-paced action. The plot is slightly less believable than the first. It is that Seagal is on a vacation with his niece on a luxurious train, when some terrorists who have stolen the controls of a lethal space laser with the capability to take out the entire US Eastern Seaboard. The terrorists hijack the train and use it as a base for their ransom demands. This film is worth 5 star. Both films are on very exciting settings with some sharp and exciting action sequences but this double feature is slightly let down by the first film. Overall, an enjoyable video worth buying.

Old films but worth replacing the VHS with DVD if you like fairly violent action. This keeps me awake for late night ironing sessions. Well packaged and prompt delivery. Thanks.

3.0 out of 5 stars 18 Classification, but violent stuff still cut..., 3 Jun 2014

This review is from: Under Siege/Under Siege 2 [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
Although the box cover says the movies have an "18" Classification, lots of the bloody/violent bits are cut from mostly part 2.
Not that the lack of these break the movie, but if you have seen the uncut version, you'll miss them.

To name some examples, warning, they include some spoilers!!

They cut the part with the hot needle nearing Captain Gilder's eye, where Ryback breaks a guys arm, and when Dane's fingers are cut off at the end.
