A radical, surreal production with over the top farce.

Picture quality 3 - poor digital video look.
Sound quality 5
Sets 4 - large, impressive black and white sets which can be wheeled on and off very quickly. During the overture a whole street is assembled!
Storytelling 5
Acting 2 - over the top farcical acting which becomes irritating. Extras play a big part in the background for all the scenes.
Direction (camera work) 5
Singing 5 - Almaviva 5, Bartalo 5, Rosina 5, Figaro 4, Don Basilio 3, Chorus 5. Some of the arias have been slightly reworked by the conductor. This is explained in the documentary.
Orchestra 5 - wonderful playing.
Costumes 3 - for most of the opera comical black and white. In the last scene comical brilliant colours.
DVD extras 5 - 58min documentary. The singers take the viewer through the opera explaining their parts and giving insight into their characters. Excellent!

Recommended if you can put up with the acting.

Absolutely stunning singing from Juan Diego Florez and Maria Bayo. Florez steals the whole show - but Spagnoli should not be playing Figaro - grotesque over-acting and too much busy shtick all the way through. However, a big thumbs down to the interfereing director, Angel Louis Ramirez, who manages to spoil almost every scene (except Florez's last aria) by inserting useless, banal, drivel-esque stage directions - talk about "micro-directed". This production would have stood a better chance of being a success with no director at all and the natural instincts of the singers. However, it is worth listening to just for Bayo's beautiful agility and Florez show-stopping vocal acrobatics.

The best quality in sound that I have ever heard (24 bit of uncompressed sound). Just only a problem in the beginning in only a second. Maybe it's a problem of the copy and it's only one second. The overture is magic and the picture is very good.

I was very pleased with the production, set design, costumes;
Florez is marvelous; But the other solists are not on his level; Rimondi - old; Figaro (sorry but forgot his name) not good;
