4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting and entertaining film.
Aeon Flux is a film that was released last year starring Academy Award winning actress Charlize Theron.

A virus kills 99% of the world's population and a scientist called Trevor Goodchild develops a cure. 400 years later, the survivors live in the city of Bregna which lies inside large walls that nobody crosses. Some call Bregna the perfect society, pollution...

3.0 out of 5 stars Visually amazing.
Aeon Flux is pretty well crafted. It's visually amazing with its stylised set design and Berlin locations and any movie that runs under 90 minutes gets my vote regardless. Unfortunately, as visually impressive as it is, Aeon Flux is also utterly cold. The characters are like ice, their motivations well plotted but unbelievable. There's not a single character you care...

Trivia.
1)Charlize Theron sustained a neck injury during a fight scene shutting down production for 1 month but returned & continued to film all her own stunts.
2)Demi Moore was original choice but turned the role down.
3)Michelle Rodriguez was tipped as Aeon Flux when the movie was green lite for production in 2003.
4)At one time Darren Aronofsky was set to direct this movie.
5)Patterson Josephs role was heavily cut from this movie.

Synopsis.
In the year 2011 a virus is unleashed upon Earth killing 99% of it's population, In 2415 Earth has only 5 million survivors.

Aeon Flux discloses a scheme plotted by Oren Goodchild Trevors brother & instead of assassinating Trevor she instead protects him.

When Flux younger sister Una is killed by Government agents Flux becomes his protector believing Oren has conspiracied to have his brother assassinated.

Now failing her mission the Handler order's Flux to be eliminated forcing Flux to risk everything & yet discovers secrets & answers about her own mysterious past, The Government & Bragna City itself.

Timelord Thoughts.
This is another Sci-fi action thriller that was unintentionally savaged by the critics on release but is actually a decent paced intriguing action sci-fi thriller.

Charlize Theron is superb as the lead character Aeon Flux who delivers a kick ass performance as the rebellious assassin while looking stunningly sensual in next to nothing.

This film has some great fight sequences all performed by Theron herself & the old "Who I thought I could trust I can't trust plot".

While this film does contains some great special effects it isn't a special effect laden type movie as its mysterious storyline is intriguing enough to carry the movie through.

Some of the supporting character's are a little underwritten but I imagine this is down to what scenes were left on the cutting room floor & I think maybe this film would benefit from a longer directors cut.

With some truly wonderful artistic set's, Futuristic props, Creative weaponry & a superb leading performance by Ms Theron this is a entertaining sci-fi action flick that's worth watching, So don't believe the negative criticism & judge for yourself on the unique sci-fi movie.

For those people already familiar with the animated series please forgive me for giving a brief introduction to those people who have not experienced Aeon Flux before.
The franchise is based in a future world, and the series focused on Aeon and her arch nemesis/love-of-her-life Trevor Goodchild who is the leader/dictator of this future world. The series was very much a freaky, psychedelic, mind-bending collection of odd stories, some of which the plot is verging on impossible to follow closely. Thankfully the film, in an attempt to become more mainstream has gone for a easier-to-follow more Americanized plot, so if you're hoping for more from the giant baby from the series or the creatures that make mind-erasing pills then you may be disappointed. That is not to say that the film is not without its odd gadgets or odd scenes, such as the conversations that Aeon has inside her mind with her boss, or the woman with hands for feet.

Thank fully the film, in an attempt to become more mainstream has gone for a easier-to-follow more Americanized plot, so if you're hoping for more from the giant baby from the series or the creatures that make mind-erasing pills then you may be disappointed. That is not to say that the film is not without its odd gadgets or odd scenes, such as the conversations that Aeon has inside her mind with her boss, or the woman with hands for feet (also featured in the series) but the extent of the "oddness" has been greatly diminished. Die-hard fans of the series will notice certain similarities or homages to the shorts and episodes, such as transferring a message in a kiss, or as I mentioned above certain characters, but even so the film does act a stand-alone piece and no prior knowledge is needed to understand or follow the plot.

Probably the film's strongest asset is the plot. To begin with it may seem very similar to the millions of other future-world films out there, but once the plot has been fully revealed it makes for a very interesting film, investigating grounds I have not seen any other films touch upon before. I won't say anymore with regards to the plot as I may give-away something that could ruin it, but let me just say that if you do like this area of cinema and are looking for something a little different, buy it now!
Otherwise nothing else in the film is of massive merit or poses any cause-for-concern, the acting is good, the music and sound effects are fine, the stunts are nothing amazingly new, but are adequate and the locales and settings are believable and well-constructed.
If it sounds like your sort of film so far then you will find its freshness welcome in a somewhat stagnant pool of dictator/future/sci-fi/post-apocalyptic films. For those who are fans of the series again it is well-worth a look, it doesn't fit in continuity with the series in any place but serves as both a good introduction and final conclusion to the series. And for those people who don't fit into either of the above categories it can serve as gentle introduction to this area of cinema, or however could sour you to any further films of this genre in the future. So I guess for you its your choice good film....!

This review is from: Aeon Flux The Movie [DVD] (DVD)
AEON FLUX (2005) is a super futuristic Sci-Fi set in 2415 and starring Charlize Theron and Marton Csokas. I found it quite extraordinary and aesthetically pleasing with its innovative ideas and beautiful settings. Charlize Theron is, as usual, perfect in the role. She must be one of the most versatile actresses out there.

Ĉon Flux (Theron) lives in a futuristic city confined within walls which keep out the rest of the planet which is supposedly uninhabitable. Within the walls lives the remainder of a human civilisation that was almost wiped out by a deadly disease. When the disease was controlled and ultimately eradicated, the citizens within the walls continued to live their lives under the command of Trevor Goodchild (Csokas) and his brother Oran. But there is unrest. People are having recurring strange thoughts and dreams, some are disappearing or killed by the police, including Aeon's sister. No one knows why this is happening, no questions are answered as people are afraid to ask. They live in a controlled state of unspoken fear. However, a rebellious movement called the Monicans arises. They want Trevor Goodchild assassinated and so they send in Aeon Flux, an expert in self-defence and combat, to eliminate him.

Despite the fact that a lot of the sci-fi seems implausible (but who, a hundred or so years ago, would have thought we would land men on the Moon, have mobile phones, satellite, and be able to communicate to others thousands of miles away instantaneously) the plot is realistic and an old story that is happening around us all the time. People are subjugated, there is unrest, followed by rebellion.

The brilliant actress Sophie Okonedo also stars in this, as a fellow Monecan and friend of Ĉons. You might remember her if you saw Hotel Rwanda, or Skin. Pete Postlethwaite, (1946-2011) the British character actor also has a small role. He died recently and was in some excellent movies right up to the end, including The Town, Inception, and Clash of the Titans, and in earlier movies such as The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
