4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality TV
Having looked for many TVs and already purchased it's bigger brother, I purchased this TV for use in the kitchen. 4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality TV, 12 Nov 2008
This review is from: Toshiba 19AV505 - 19" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview - Black (Electronics)
Having looked for many TVs and already purchased it's bigger brother, I purchased this TV for use in the kitchen. As it is up high on a stand I was particuarly concerned about viewing angle and for sure viewing from a table below it does get slightly darker occasionaly but overall excellent. I would recommend this TV to anyone for this use. If you want it for high fidelity sound then I know what the other reviewer means but it is really not that bad . The picture quality is excellent and the set-up child's play.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 13 Nov 2008

Firstly, as a previous reviewer said, this is a great looking TV. I checked it out in the flesh before I placed my order via Amazon and I was excited about it being delivered. Unfortunately, that is where the excitement ended.

Upon arrival I attached the tv effortlessly to the wall mount that I had purchased along with it. Fitting the wall mount was simple and effective and I was up and running in no time. Within seconds of turning it on however I noticed that there was a large luminous pair of "dead" pixels just to the left of the centre of the screen. I immediately packaged it back up, contacted Amazon, and ordered a replacement. A few days later the replacement arrived. I turned it on and...yep, the new set had a similar problem. But on this occasion the picture was only affected by one slightly less noticeable red "dead" pixel, again to the left of centre. Not only that but this set appeared to suffer from a dim humming type noise whenever the set was on. Extremely unhappy, I packaged this set up too and proceeded to cancel my order. I am in the process of returning this item too and am expecting a full refund.

In terms of other aspects of the product, I found the screen to be capable of displaying decent imagery and colour from head-on, but if you are slightly to the side, or even above or below, a direct line of sight view the images darken and become difficult to distinguish. The sound quality is also not class leading: I'd expect better from even a 19" TV.

In addition to the screen quality gripes I found the remote control to be poorly laid out and totally non-intuitive. The channel buttons are fine and of a nice size but the additional service buttons (such as those for selecting text/digital services, sound and picture modes) are too small and somewhat unresponsive.

OK, so I may have been the unfortunate recipient of tvs from a faulty batch but I suspect not. I also don't think I have been overly picky. With so many reliable sets on the market we have no responsibility to accept second best or devices that are not fully fit for purpose; especially when they are brand new. As anyone knows, faulty pixels are irritating at the worst of times, but on a tv as small as this they are very, very easy to spot, and detract from the overall quality of the viewing experience.

In summary, I was wholly disappointed by this set and am looking forward to receiving my Samsung replacement.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Sound, 14 Jan 2009

Toshiba 19AV505 - 19" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview - Black I wish that I had read the reviews on this TV before I bought it, but the picture looked very good on an in-store display that I had seen and I believed Toshiba to be a good brand. However, when we switched it on at home, I thought that perhaps there was a fault on the loudspeaker - it sounded like a 1960's transistor radio - and no adjustment on the Sound Menu made any difference. However, I checked with a pair of stereo headphones plugged in to the small jack socket at the rear of the TV and the sound was excellent, confirming that the electronic circuitry was producing the quality but the loudspeaker was deficient. I have solved the problem by purchase of a pair of louspeakers from a local store that plug into the 3.5mm jack socket on the TV and use a small Power Supply Unit to amplify the level. The jack plug cuts out the loudspeaker in the TV and you can still control the volume with the remote unit. The change in sound quality (using a pair of good external loudspeakers) is brilliant. However, I spent £20 on the loudspeakers and really feel that Toshiba should have done better.

Good value TV but the first one had a permanent green dot on the screen. I returned it for a second one....this too had pixel damage so a permamnet green dot was visible from 10 yards away.
Amazon's returns policy does not allow a third attempt so it's money back and try for the Samsung alternative which is a little cheaper!

This is a very stylish tv, very smart to look at and very easy to set up. Good picture quality but some of the system functions are not that clearly described in the booklet, overall though for anybody who wants a smallish tv this one is great.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Toshiba 19AV505 - 19" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview - Black (Electronics)
I bought this TV as a Christmas present for my son. The service from Amazon was fantastic! When my son set the TV up on Christmas day he noticed the was a small green dot on the screen and it was obvious there was a problem with the screen and that although very small would become an irritant over time. We contacted Amazon and arranged to return the TV, and get a replacement this was done with no fuss or bother and a new TV arrived within days. My son is happy to say the TV is brilliant and he is more than happy with how easy it was to set up (he's a Technophob!),the picture clarity is great! Thanks Amazon.

Bought this LCD TV with Freeview for my 9 year old daughter's bedroom - for this purpose it is absolutly ideal - good picture quality and the sound is perfectly sufficient for a bedroom. Very easy to set up.

1.0 out of 5 stars very poor from Toshiba/great service from Amazon, 1 Jan 2009
This review is from: Toshiba 19AV505 - 19" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview - Black (Electronics)
Toshiba 19AV505 - 19" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview - Black
I bought this great looking tv from amazon a few weeks ago for a great price. However, having successfully wall mounted the tv there were 2 major problems;3 dead pixels;once you've noticed them they glare out at you like tiny headlights! I see another reviewer had the same problem. Furthermore, the sound was appalling;very poor quality even for a small tv in the kitchen. Of course, I returned the item via Amazon's excellent return service at the same time as ordering a Samsung 19" via Amazon;this is less pretty, but with good sound, great picture & no dead pixels!!
So, sorry Toshiba, but well done Amazon!

2.0 out of 5 stars sound quality unbelievably bad, 28 Dec 2008
By
This review is from: Toshiba 19AV505 - 19" Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview - Black (Electronics)
This TV looks good and no complaints about the picture quality. However, the sound is unbelievably bad for a brand name like Toshiba. It has all the tone controls and even a bass boost but the sound is still tinny and worse than I would expect to hear from a brand I haven't heard of. On a minor point I find the channels very slow to change over and would have preferred larger buttons for the volume and channel up and down selection - we are using this in the bedroom so this would make it easier to find with only the light from the TV to help. This was a present to us but had it not been I would definitely be attempting to return it in exchange for some other brand with decent sound.

UPDATE TO MY REVIEW:
After using this for a week I became increasingly irritated with the fact that when skipping through the channels the only info you get is the channel name and no info on what the name of the programme is. On the EPG all you get is the programme title with no info on what it's about. On all the other digital TVs or Freeview boxes I have seen you get the programme name as well as the channel name or number when channel hopping and a brief bit of info when going through the EPG. This got so irritating that I have now installed the old Sony Freeview box that was connected to the last CRT TV and view everything through that - extra small box on the bedroom cabinet but better than throwing the TV through the window in a rage!!
