5.0 out of 5 stars They deliver yet again
So here we are, the second offering from Southern heavy rockers, Black Stone Cherry. I like the idea they came up with for this second album - it's clever and original.

So, has the so-called 'second album syndrome' affected these guys? No, not at all. Whilst I admit, they seem to have a more mainstream feel to some of their songs - 'Soulcreek', for example,...

3.0 out of 5 stars God Rock anyone?
Musically this album is excellent. Lyrically it is quite the opposite. I am guessing these rockers originate from southern USA as the album has a Hill Billy-esque rock element to it, also in regards to the lyrics God, Jesus and love are ranked quite highly in the list of topics sung about. As a religion-less Brit I find it quite hard to relate to the soppy, sentimental...

2.0 out of 5 stars Second album syndrome, 8 Mar 2009
This review is from: Folklore and Superstition (Audio CD)
After a solid hard rock debut, I had high hopes for Folklore and Superstiton. Oh dear, it appears second - album syndrome is in full effect here. This is a wholly inferior effort. Though the lyrics on the first record were often slightly predictable and uninspired the problem worsens on the second record. The instrumentation that impressed so much on the first record has become slightly subdued, bland, generic and simply not up to standard. The production is a lot cleaner and more polished however I feel this actually takes from the gutter-rock sound of the first record. The southern feel is still there but the album sounds more southern-Nickelback than hard-Skynyrd. The tracks here aren't awful but they're just not good enough. Here's hoping the guys get it together for the third record.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't rip to laptop, 24 May 2013

Roadrunner Records CDs often have this problem - will not rip to a laptop or even play on one - only work in old cd players. Got a refund when I returned it but now just don't have the CD I wanted. Would rather Amazon provided a version that worked.

The music contained within this CD if incredible, by far one of the best i have purchased in the last year...............but.............i would be very careful because for some reason the CD will Folklore & Superstitionnot play on a Laptop or desktop, so its impossible to share with an MP3 player! It does however work within the Car or home stereo? I contacted Customer Service and they immediately sent a replacement, which was exactly the same! This is the first time i have encountered anything like this.

Have to say that BSC are currently one of the most exciting bands out there :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 8 Sep 2008
This review is from: Folklore and Superstition (Audio CD)
I really wanted to like this. The cover looks good and the first album was great; contemporary Heavy Rock with a kind of 60's and 70s twist. This album however is over produced, and bland with little present of what made the first one intresting. If you really want this kind of commercial anthemic rock then listen to Bryan Adams or Bon Jovi. If you yearn for 60s and 70s Southern Rock rock with real class then listen to Lynyrd Skynrd and The Allman Brothers....both 100 times more interesting than this. And if you really know that nusic you'll agree....
