I bought this as I have the new macbook pro with retina screen. The new macbook is only 19mm thick, whereas the old macbook was something like 27, so I didn't want to buy a macbook case as it would be really loose. The air is 17mm thick at its thickest point and this case is 19.5mm. Its a great case, the foam is really something! But I bought this a bit in the dark, unsure whether or not it would fit my macbook pro, so just incase anyone else is searching like i was, this case fits the Macbook Pro with retina display perfectly.

Excellent product! After spending a good few hours trying to find a suitable case/sleeve for my new MacBook Air and reading general positive reviews for this product I went for the Black + Wasabi version. The case is a perfect snug fit for the new 13" MacBook Air with a protective lip where the zip is (though care is still required when sliding it out as I think it would still be possible to scratch the MacBook if it is not straight when removing) and the Low Resilience Polyurethane technology seems like it will protect the MacBook from knocks (if you prod it quickly it seems to harden - clever stuff!!!) and doesn't seem to add too much bulk to the MacBook when carrying around (or in another bag). This is a very good value product and so far I'm very pleased with it!!

Perfect for what I was after: Cheap; protective; slim; sleek - would definitely recommend it. Perfect size for my 13" mac air

I purchased this to protect my Macbook Air. Used it for the first time last Friday on a flight to London. Reviewed the case today and there is a hole worn in the bottom corner. Not impressed at all. This was in a rucksack the whole time so it was double insulated against the outside world.

Imagine a longer trip or a series of trips, this thing would be worn out in short order. Would not purchase again or recommend to others.

Already have a backpack from an expired 2008 15" MBPro but my new 13" Air was so much smaller it rattled around in there and with other stuff in the bag would probably scuff.

This LArobe sleeve is fits the current Air nicely and pads it out to a good size to put inside that bag. Externally the LArobe looks like any other Black neoprene type case but what made it interesting to me is the material it is made from. I say "looks like" because it is not neoprene. It's made of a shock damping foam.

As soon as it arrives it tries to hint it is unconventional, not packaged in a cardboard box but in a transparent thick PVC bag printed with logos and bullet points in multiple languages, with a handle on the top and a fob of sample foam to play with. The largest type states it is suitable for MacBook Air 13" and MacBook Pro Retina 13". Note the time of writing this review is Autumn 2013. It should also be suitable for many other ultra slim 13" devices. There is a different version for thicker 13" laptops too.

The sleeve foam material is what makes this unique, it has viscous properties which means deformation and recovery from that deformation is time dependant. That viscous foam behaviour is what provides a different type of protection, and materials that do this are referred to as a memory foams and in this case it's a LRPu (low resilience polyurethane) which is a lower density (lighter for a given volume) memory foam.

A memory foam deforms gradually when you pinch it and slowly returns to its relaxed shape when you let go so the idea here is the foam gradually absorbs energy, softens any mild impacts or shock events felt by the target (your laptop) spreading the shock in both space and time. Cue Theremin soundtrack.

You get a key fob sized sample of this foam with the pack and you will find yourself pinching it repeatedly and feeling the odd way it crushes and looking for the recovery back to normal thickness. When I pinch the sample as hard as I can to minimum thickness it recovers nearly completely by 30 seconds and perfectly by 60. One other effect of using this foam is the empty case is not a floppy case, it's a little stiffer than others and not exactly a flat shape either, a slight twist near the corners perhaps. It will take on a more distorted shape if left on a non-flat surface with items piled on top of it. It does flatten out when freed or a computer is put back inside. I doubt this foam is waterproof, it is going to act like a sponge, so shield from downpours.

Memory foam properties aside what about the presentation? Externally as said earlier it looks like a conventional black "neoprene type" case with the only styling a light green 22mm high ".ɘ" (reversed character e) in the bottom right corner on both sides. The shape of the sleeve is not quite a perfect rectangle as the corners round outwards slightly maybe to give added corner protection and perhaps 'grip' the inside a slide-in bag pocket. There is a black plastic coil zipper on one end that wraps a little way around the corners and an internal lip that barriers the zip from touching the edge of the laptop inside. The large zip slider and the pull tab are metal, coated with a black polymer. That external wasabi coloured ".ɘ" logo, matches the colour used on the entire inside surface, lip and stitching. This one is black (outside) and green wasabi (inside). Other internal colours I have seen are an equally bright pink and a blue. It works well I think like open ending an alien muscle shell.

The empty sleeve weighs in at 184g and a lot of that will probably be due to the zip so you hardly notice it is there.

Given that this is going to spend most of its time inside another bag rather than carried in hand the build quality feels like it should outlast the occupant. I am glad I searched through all the other selves out there and given the recent price drop I am more than happy with the LArobe for the Air.

The MacBook Air 13 inch, late 2010 model fits this case really well.
It doesn't move above in the case, while at the same is not that tight fitting.
This is more than just a neoprene case, it contains a foam padding (about 5mm thick) that you can squash but reshapes after 30 or so minutes and thus the sleeve does not fold easily.
This is a good sleeve/case cross over. Its got good protection but retains a slim sleeve quality. Ideal for carrying in a backpack etc.

I agree with most reviewers that this is a good sleeve. There are however two flaws that render it only almost perfect if you intend to use it with a late 2011 Macbook Air. First of all, the sleeve makes the machine look and feel much bigger than it would have to be, meaning it takes away the sleekness of the MBA and therefore one of its main advantages. Although it still fits in my briefcase it only just does so. The other problem is that it has no snug fit in the sleeve which causes it moving around slightly. All no big deal but it is clear that this sleeve was designed with mainstream 13" machines in mind and not so much MBA's. Still good protection and probably the most suitable sleeve on the market, as yet.

Alright, I agree it defeats the slimness of the Macbook Air to put it in a cover but having splashed all that cash, you need to take care of it. I love this cover because it is semi rigid so it is very easy to get the mac into the cover, the cover doesn't flop around and the mac slides in and out easily. The zip is on the short side of the cover which is a massive improvement to the convenience of opening and closing the zip. Also the cover is reasonably slim and close fitting and it looks as though it will be effective - the foam is dense and robust (but I have never tested it in anger). Also I would never buy a wacky colour but I like the bright green lining, however, that's a matter of personal taste.

The LARobe sleeve for MacBook Air 13 inch is a marvel. It's very lightweight. It is seriously padded. The zip enclosure is so well designed that the zip does not scratch the Air as you slip it in and out. The colours are excellent.I suppose you could wish for top-loading instead of end-loading, but I am totally delighted with my LARobe sleeve after using it for nine months or more now. Great product!
