4.0 out of 5 stars Draw with Light
This is definitely a cool toy with that all important `wow' factor. It works best in complete darkness, but it also works to some extent with just the curtains drawn at day-time. The idea is very simple, yet genius! The toy consists of a plastic sheet with glow-in-the-dark properties and a light pen. You can then draw with the light on the glow-in-the-dark surface. There...

3.0 out of 5 stars Quite flimsy and can only be used in the dark...
This is a nice idea and a good buy. However you need to know what you are buying before you order! This is a piece of glow in the dark plastic (like a poster) that needs to be hung on a wall or straightened out on a table. Batteries go into the pen which is a UV light used to make the plastic glow in the dark. Therefore you need to have a relatively dim room to use this...

4.0 out of 5 stars Draw with Light, 22 Nov 2009

This is definitely a cool toy with that all important `wow' factor. It works best in complete darkness, but it also works to some extent with just the curtains drawn at day-time. The idea is very simple, yet genius! The toy consists of a plastic sheet with glow-in-the-dark properties and a light pen. You can then draw with the light on the glow-in-the-dark surface. There are also a number of accessories, like positive and negative stencils and some acetate transfer sheets as well, along with a star crystal attachment for the pen. Simply wave the light pen over the stencils and see the designs appear on the sheet. You can also draw you own designs or write on the surface, which is probably the most fun. The designs start fading almost immediately, but still remain visible for a couple of minutes. A perfect bed-time toy to share with your child, very magical!

The quality of the toy could be a bit better. The sheet scratches quite easily, though it doesn't seem to affect the performance. The light pen is very bright, so be careful not to shine it into your eyes. My husband thinks it might be UV light though I didn't find any reference to this on the packaging. It should be perfectly safe if used properly, but I wouldn't leave a young child alone with this toy. The pen takes 3 X AAA batteries and they should last for a good while. I looked for replacement lights in case the bulb goes in the light pen, but I couldn't find any. If that happens, it's probably the end of the toy, though you may be able to use it with a regular pen torch as well.

Overall, I'm quite happy with this toy. I would definitely recommend this toy, but do shop around to get a good deal.

Batteries go into the pen which is a UV light used to make the plastic glow in the dark. Therefore you need to have a relatively dim room to use this. You cannot get too much detail on the pictures and they do not last for very long. It is a good gimmick and my son loves playing with it in the evenings.

A lovely toy that keeps the children amused. Works best in a dark room though!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Toy but not serious art equipment, 21 Jan 2010

This was a present for your 9 year old, but as soon as it was out of the box the whole family was playing with it. You can making designs by stencilling with with whatever you can find, and it is easy to create layered designs reminiscent of spraypainting or stencilling. The marks you make with the light pen don't last very long and it is imprecise, so don't expect to be able to create a masterpiece (that lasts for more than about twenty seconds) but it is a lot of fun to tinker with. The price on Amazon was cheaper that anywhere else, so I'm pleased with that, and it has been used on and off since it was bought so it isn't a one-hit-wonder either.

its really hard to draw freehand as it leaves a light trail when you lift the pen up, same with writing. the stencils are ok i guess but i was more keen on the idea of creating your own pictures which even i couldn't do! wouldn't recommend i'm afraid :(

I bought this for my 12 year old niece and she loves it - i loved it too, as did my 2 year old daughter, we all had a great time creating patterns.

It works perfectly well in pure daylight, but obviously gets better the darker the room.

It does scratch easy but does not effect the overall performance.

A great christmas gift.

3.0 out of 5 stars Crayola Play Station, 28 Feb 2010

A good idea, but the lines of light that are drawn onto the surface vanish almost as soon as they appear. Still, my grandson found it interesting to play with for a while and it doesn't make a mess. Helps a young toddler to get used to using a pen for drawing or writing. Would have preferred the lines to have lasted until you wanted to remove them (as with the Etch-a-Sketch-style toys).

This was a Christmas present for my 6 yr old boy but he hasn't had much chance to get to it because of myself and 9 year old daughter who take over. It's lots of fun and impresses the more cynical amongst us. It should last a while as all you need are replacement batteries. I think every household should have one even if there are no children in it!
