This review is from: Sony KDL-26V4000 - 26" Widescreen HD Ready Bravia LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)
Excellent picture quality and sound and as big as you'll need in a small living room. Some reviewers have complained about the KDL26V4000's ability to tune to a weak Freeview signal. The digibox I had with my previous TV was never able to pick up Freeview using our existing elderly aerial. This set has located it with little problem however. Gives a fantastic HD picture from freesat too. Pity that Sony don't make a freesat box which can be controlled with the TV remote. I was slightly worried that it would be vulnerable to the attentions of our toddler, but the heavy metal base is quite enough to stop it falling over even if pushed, and the on/off controls are located on top of the set where she can't reach them.

Bought this for the bedroom. Good clear picture with no blurring at all when watching sport which was very important to me. Setup easy just turn it on and follow the on screen instructions you can't go wrong. Auto tunes all the channels. sound quality is excellent for a tv this size. used in bedroom and loud enough to watch tv even at 1/4 of the volume. researched many tv's and this was the best all round value in this size and price bracket. if you dont want it in standby then turn it off. there is a button on the top next to the manual controls that turns it off so no wasted power!!!

A very good LCD TV,

I bought this TV one week ago and I will say it is a very good choice. The 26" size is suitable in my small size living room and also good in a bedroom. The image quality is perfect whether in analog mode(5 channels) or in digital mode(30+ freeview channels). Someone above said the TV would lose all its recorded channels information after unpluged it power cable from wall. I did the test however I found it was not true. All channels were still there after one night power off(unplug the power cable). The delivery was quite fast. I ordered it at 1:50 afternoon and the TV arrived in the early morning next day. All in all, for this price 26V4000 is a wonderful purchase.

Great quality modestly sized TV,

This was our first flat screen TV, replacing a 28" CRT. Although you can get the 32inch V4000 for only slightly more we went for this model as we don't need any extra screen size - we just wanted something easier to carry that doesn't use any floor space. It will be wall mounted in our small living room (allow 4 or 5cm clearance when you buy a bracket unless your cables will run through the wall...).It is currently used for upscaled DVDs via hdmi, built-in freeview and as a 2nd monitor for the PC on a VGA cable. The picture quality is excellent in all of these uses and free from digital artefacts which are distracting on larger screens.

Top value 26in LCD,

I spent a lot of time researching various 26in TVs, and the choice seemed to be between various Sony models, a couple of Panasonic models and a Samsung one. I am extremely pleased to have chosen this model.- It looks excellent. Although I am quite keen on my AV equipment, I do recognise a TV should look nice in the room you are putting it in. The piano black surround looks classy without being brash, and the silver speaker grille almost looks metal (although it isn't) - The picture is superb. For SD broadcasts, it looks a lot better than my (much more expensive) Sharp 42in LCD. I mostly use it for connection to an Xbox360 - the responsiveness of the screen seems good and the colours are vibrant - The remote is comfortable to use and quite intuitive. Some Sony stuff has been shipped with very complicated remotes lately (especially the DVD recorders), nice to see they are correcting this Of course there are a couple of downsides (sound is average, the in built SD receiver isn't too good at picking up channels on weak signals) but in all I couldn't be happier with it. Not sure why you would pay £100 more for a Panasonic (or £40 less for a Samsung).

I bought this TV just over 2 weeks ago and I am very pleased with it.I have to say that when I first bought it I wasn't sure about it. This was a replacement of an old CRT so I was used to very sharp pictures and spot on colours. I knew to expect some sort of artefact from SD pictures but I was still dissapointed to see it. (At this point, I have to explain that my job involves checking finished programmes, adverts, films etc.. for quality of picture, so I am trained to spot picture faults and flag them so they can be fixed. So anything that does not equate perfect picture really annoys me because it is really obvious to me). When this TV is pulled out of the box the default picture settings aren't very good. After loads of adjusting though, I actually managed to get a really good picture. It seems a lot of people I know have bought LCD TV's this past month or so, after seeing the quality of picture their TVs produce I now realise I am on to a winner. I have found the other LCD TVs unwatchable. The quality of picture on the Sony is superior to everything else I have seen and I wouldn't change mine for anything else. Other brands I've seen from friends and family include Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic and LG. With some picture adjusting, the SD artefacts can be almost eliminated and the picture can be close to perfect. I am very pleased with the sound and the features on the remote. I gave this product 4/5 because it's not absolutely perfect - I very much doubt any LCD is with an SD picture. I do however love my LCD and wouldn't swap it for any of the other TV's even if you paid me! Just to add one last comment, I haven't checked the pictures with an HD source (this review is purely having used Freeview through an ariel and normal DVD source) so I can't comment on the HD pictures. I am confident they will be great.

vivid colours, good sound!,
This review is from: Sony KDL-26V4000 - 26" Widescreen HD Ready Bravia LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)
I wanted the images to have enough presence and subtlety of colour to be able to watch dvd's of films on this TV, and 26" is a pretty small screen size to be drawn into!this Sony TV does the trick. There are several presets both in terms of sound quality and colour and contrast, and one can do very small adjustments too. It is worth spending a bit of time playing with the settings, as it certainly yelds results.

As usual Amazon's service was first class, early delivery and it's nice to have a 3 year warranty with the TV. We already have a 32" Bravia in the living room which has been exceptionally good, and this one for a smaller room upstairs promises to give just as much pleasure. It looks elegant, was easy to set up, auto-tuned without any problem, and the analogue pictures are very good considering we only have a small indoor aerial in the loft. We are waiting for a digital service from Virgin Media, an extension of the one downstairs, and if the pictures are as good as there then HD is almost superfluous!

Disappointing....,

We bought this TV recently from Amazon. We already have a 32" Panasonic Viera so looking for something with a decent picture. This was bought as a second telly.Out the box it has horrendous red flashes/ghosting round any flesh toned images when those images move. Consequently it's unwatchable. We tried plugging it into the same scart socket (from Sky box) which the Panasonic is using. Dreadful picture. No amount of tweaking settings will fix. We could reduce the redness somewhat but the picture still wasn't great quality. Panasonic is crystal clear. It might just be a duff box, but bare in mind when you're buying. We're so disappointed as Sony are meant to be a good brand. Even after reading similar reviews I thought we might be one of the lucky ones to get a great product.....we didn't. I've contacted Sony to check there isn't some magical setting we don't know about, but we will be returning the box I think. |
