This review is from: Stravinsky: Le sacre du printemps/ Petrushka / L'Oiseau de feu / Apollo (Audio CD)
Superb performances from Rattle and (what was then) his Birmingham orchestra of four of Stravinsky's major works.

The Firebird (here complete) and The Rite of Spring are still amongst the very best available and recorded in rich, crystal-clear sound by EMI at the University of Warwick's Butterworth Hall.

Pair this with Rattle's Berlin disc of the three major symphonies [ Stravinsky Symphony of Psalms / Symphony in C / Symphony in Three Movements ] for a rounded and rewarding survey of this talented conductor's way with Stravinsky. It's also better value than EMI's 'Simon Rattle:Stravinsky' 4-disc box set [ Simon Rattle Edition - Stravinsky (4CD) ] which does not include the Berlin recordings.

A fantastic bargain and thoroughly recommended.
