In these mega-hassle fret heavy credit crunch global economy melt down times we all need something to help us relax....to chill out as those who errr regularly chill out would say. Well then welcome very much Low Motion Disco .This low key Swiss production duo have, effortlessly it would seem. produced one of the most simply enjoyable albums of 2008. That for half the time it's on you will barely register it's existence is all part of its understated charm.
The music is a supremely pleasant laidback but jocund mixture of easily identifiable influences like Air, The Orb, Pink Floyd circa Atom Heart Mother( listen to "Born In The Low Wind") Eno, Lemon Jelly and no doubt many others. Crucially though it is never pastiche or mere copyist - it sounds like the music just comes naturally to them and this is reflected in the emollient way the music just seems to flow like an aural gulf stream.
Sometimes this is in the form of a re-working ("Ooh Child" is reworked here as "Things Are Gonna Get Easier" and is gloriously soulful ),MV & EE,s "East Mountain Joint" is remixed as "East Mountain Low" but mostly these are original compositions that recycle ( but do not formulate) delicate drum patterns , gradated keyboards, glistening piano notes .Often though it's as much about the space between the notes or the way an arrangement will seem to pause for thought -like on the lugubrious "Love Love Love" that sets the tone of the music.
Minor criticism could be levelled at the way the album is book ended by spurious spoken word pieces but either side of that when this truly lovely music is billowing serenely out of the speakers the world is a more tranquil amenable place and anything that can do that should be treasured for the comforting miracle it is.
