Koch Vision present "HEDDA GABLER" (1981) (78 mins/Color) (Dolby Digital) --- Henrik Ibsen's classic play "HEDDA GABLER" is brought to the screen in this adaptation, which was originally made for television --- The stunning adaptation of Ibsens groundbreaking play that tells the story of an ambitious woman trapped in the stifling environment of a 19th century marriage, "HEDDA GABLER" features an ALL-Star cast that includes: 5-time Emmy Award Nominee, Diana Rigg plays Hedda with a strong supporting cast.

Under David Cunliffe (Director), Henrik Ibsen (Play Author), John Osborne (Screenwriter) - - - - the cast includes Diana Rigg, Kathleen Byron, Alan Dobie and Dennis Lill - - - - - - the story line and plot, Stuck in a loveless marriage to intellectual George Tesman (Denis Lill), the ambitious Hedda Gabler (Diana Rigg) hungers for a life her husband can't provide --- When a former flame, the successful Eilert (Philip Bond), enters the picture, violence and blackmail aren't far behind --- Diana Rigg is the manipulative Hedda, who will not or cannot conform to what society considers "normal" for a woman --- The arrival of an ex-lover on the scene gives her the opportunity to determine someone else's fate--but of course that is not what Ibsen was writing about --- in the adaptation by John Osborne.

Great job by Koch Vision --- looking forward to more high quality titles from the BBC Collection film market --- order your copy now from Amazon or Koch Vision where there are plenty of copies available on DVD, stay tuned once again for top notch releases --- where they are experts in releasing long forgotten films and treasures to the collector.

Diana Rigg is always a fantastic actress in everything she appears in. This production of the Ibsen play was made for ITV Thames. The copy is good and Rigg and company are excellent. Delivery time from the supplier was faultless, well packed and I'm delighted with it.

I chose this for the actors and expectation of interesting and witty script. I was not disappointed. Lovely clothes, Beautiful English properly spoken. shock ending but not unexpectedly matched character of the main player.

Diana Rigg as the General's daughter exudes boredom and entrapment. Feels a little dated in its style and treatement but the claustrophibia comes through well in the static set. Bought this as a teaching aid and it has done the job well.

This version gets very low marks from me because so much of the text has been cut out. There isn't any 'padding' in Ibsen so everything you cut detracts from the meaning of the play. I guess they were forced to do this to make it fit in a TV 'slot'. No amount of good acting can compensate.

Hedda Gabler [1980] [DVD]
OMG I have been looking for years for this dvd. In the early 80s I managed to get a poor recording on tape & am so excited to find it on dvd at a resonable price. Love the play, very powerful... This is Diana Rigg at her best. Love the ending as she was going to 'live' her life HER way. Thank you AMAZON!

I am not a drama expert so my opinion does not count for much. I enjoy watching the dvd and it will help me inventually to understand the play fully,
