4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Adventure
National Treasure is a fun, family orientated action adventure, nothing more, nothing less. All the usual bits are here, the romantic interest, the humourous sidekick, father-son reunion but even with all these common elements movies don't always work. This one does thanks to a fun plot and good chemistry between the actors. Not an intellectual challenge, just a couple of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Dumbed down Da Vinci Code
"National Treasure" is probably the first of a string of films set to cash in on the "Da Vinci Code", "Angels and Demons", "Rule of Four" phenomenon that has set the world of paperback fiction alight over the past year or so. Like most of these novels , "National Treasure" popularises some hitherto arcane secret society knowledge and combines this with riddle solving...

2.0 out of 5 stars Cage seems to be the National Treasure, 31 May 2007
This has to be one of the most pathetic attempts to cash in on a trend in recent cinema. (DaVinci code) This movie has nothing going for it. The characters are one-dimensional. The story moves along as people go from helper to adversary and back randomly whenever the plot needs them to in order to further itself. We have no idea why any of the characters other than Cage's do what they do. And Cage himself, well, it looks like he's forgotten how to make a decent film and make a character believable. I'm sure he got paid lots for appearing in this over-hyped money-grab. Let's hope he used it to buy something nice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing - and distinctly average, 6 Jun 2005
Contrived and unconvincing - at times positively embarrassing. Very much a poor man's Indiana Jones. Could have made an interesting story, but all too cliche and obvious. Could pass a rainy Sunday afternoon if you've nothing better to do...

1.0 out of 5 stars Please, never again, 24 Jun 2007

They lost me in the opening scenes, finding a wreck in the Arctic wastes first time. You don't watch movies like this for a reality check, but a mentally retarded gerbil wouldn't swallow that one. The rest of it was utter tripe, trotting out the usual cliched scenarios that have been around forever. That was what disappointed me, I am quite happy to suspend my credulity for the fantasy adventure genre, but I expect at least a hint of originality. I am just glad I didn't pay to watch such drivel, but it was a long flight so I did watch to the end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tutt, Tutt Mr Cage, 12 Aug 2005
I thought this film was a tombraider wannabe, Don't get me wrong this has its own stylish plot and moves at pace from time to time but it lacks a certain finesse. The history of the Mason's isn't really something that has intrested me and still after watching this movie doesn't. Think i may have bought into the typical movie hype on this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Painfull, 7 May 2005

This could have been a great movie if not for the awfull script, most likely written in five minutes by someone who couldn't think of anything original ta say. The cheesey dialogue and grating music drove me almost to madness. I gave this movie one star for the efforts of the actors trying to make this worth my hard earned bucks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter Rubbish, 23 Aug 2006

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This film was terrible, Nicholas Cage could quite feasibly be a new type of Indiana Jones but this film was just an appalling load of rubbish a cross between simple childish Da Vinci Code puzzles to oh not again Sean Bean as a bad guy, bad story, bad acting and nothing going for it at all which is a shame as I was really looking forward to it. The film seems to get more and more bored with itself as time goes on and just seems that chapters of story are added to it just to allow the running time to increase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total Rubbish, 2 Sep 2006
Considering that this was directed by Jerry Bruckheimer this really should be quite good. Unfortunately it's not by a long stretch of the imagination. The plot is so absurd that I turned it off - a load of rubbish about Freemasonry and the Knights Templar that's sooo inaccurate it's offensive.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter drivel. If you liked Da Vinci code, you'll love it..., 2 Aug 2005
If you hated the Da Vinci code, but found the theme vaguely interesting, read Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco.
