5.0 out of 5 stars The dark masterpiece, 19 Aug. 2008
This review is from: Runner's In the Night (Audio CD)
I have only reviewed one other CD at Amazon, the first record by Desmond Child & Rouge. That is one of the true masterpieces of rock'n'roll. This is possibly even better. Desmond and the girls created a fantastic mix of latino, rock, soul, glam and disco and made truly original music.

Whereas the first record is young and hopeful, this one is dark and moody, reflecting Childs problems with coming to terms with his homosexuality and his break with Maria Vidal, one of the three rouges. The result is edgy and operatic, the music is less disco, more pure rock.

It was recorded in the summer of 79 and is one of the great reflections of a decade of excess coming to an end and coming to terms with the fact that the party is over and the rest of your life is ahead of you.

For Desmond Child that included creating some of the great hits of an era, but this is still his masterpiece. It is a terribly sad record, but it makes me truly happy to hear it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally ... it's hear, 26 Sept. 2008

This review is from: Runner's In the Night (Audio CD)
Finally, for the first time since 1979, Desmond Child and Rouge's second and final album "Runners In The Night" has been released on CD. I have been waiting years for this to come out after I heard "Scared To Live" on Napster (when it was an illegal sight - I only downloaded deleted recordings by the way) and six months before the release of this CD managed to get hold of a 2nd hand vinyl copy. I love this album. The thing that ruined it was the fact it was before it's time. Had it been released in 1982 this album would've been huge. The booklet that occopanies the album, is an indepth biography of the band as well as a contributation from Desmond Child himself. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!, 10 Sept. 2008

Fellow Desmond Child fan Arnfinn is right. Underrated classic for sure.
If you can imagine the east coast "Rumours", "Bat out of Hell" without the cheese, or "Born to Run" arranged and performed by the cast of "Fame" and like the idea, get this album.
If not, get it anyway. See if the "baby, baby, baby, baby" part on "Tumble in the night" doesn't give you goosebumps. I dare you.
