I've used this on a variety of Japanese knives, (Shun, Kasumi and Tamahagane), with excellent results. I have a a 1000 grit too for shaping, then the 3000 and then 8000. Then hone on a leather strop with some honing paste for an incredible mirror finish. Good knives deserve this kind of love.
The small levelling/cleaning stone included is essential too, to keep whetsones in pefect condition.

Honestly, the packaging is so nice, you don't even want to take it out; but when you do, you get a beautiful piece of kit for sharpening your knife set.
Just follow the instructions and you be rewarded with perfectly sharp blades that make all the difference to your cooking.
