Good, solid table for endless games of table footie
on 24 January 2012
Bought this for my seven-year-old's birthday, but he can't play alone, so his ten-year-old and thirteen-year-old brothers, not to mention his forty-eight-year-old dad and undisclosed-year-old mum, have all played plenty on it.
If you've assembled Ikea furniture before, you won't find the construction too taxing. Take your time at the start to ensure the teams are correctly positioned, as initial constuction is done with the table upside down. I made the foolish mistake of simply facing the teams symetrically, without placing the forwards.. well, forward. My kids spotted this the moment I'd finished constructing the table, which meant I had to completely dismantle it to make the correction. Advice: ask the kids to check the team positions right at the beginning.
The table plays like a pub table (except you don't need to feed it with coins), with that satisfying thwack when you hit the sweet spot. It's solid, and doesn't feel like it'll fall over with every shot, as some tables do. The players are firmly screwed on, though some initially worked slightly loose, so I tightened them up and they've stayed secure.
All in all, a really good table that I can see lasting a long time to come.
