5.0 out of 5 stars Gerald Harper Lives!, 4 April 2008
This review is from: Hadleigh - Series 2 - Complete [1971] [DVD] (DVD)
I remember this series from when I was a boy. Monday nights, 9 o'clock. This second series has more punch than the first; seems much more certain about its aims. Hadleigh seems to be forever on the receiving end of inverted snobbery because of his inherited wealth and privilege. But he's a good sort and doesn't fall foul of the viewer (can't see a character like him receiving that kind of flak today, can you?). A whole series of co-stars reads like a who's who of the era: Hannah Gordon, Mike Pratt, Jane Merrow, David Langton... It's a real treat to watch good character-based drama like this. I'm already looking forward to the "sequels".

5.0 out of 5 stars TV at its Best!, 31 May 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Hadleigh - Series 2 - Complete [1971] [DVD] (DVD)
The second batch of Hadleigh stories demonstrates what a fine TV programme we had back in the 70's. Although not quite as fast-paced as some modern counterparts, this is an exceptionally well crafted series that stand up very well indeed. More please!

This review is from: Hadleigh - Series 2 - Complete [1971] [DVD] (DVD)
This series is a vast improvement on the first. The supercilious layabouts with whom Hadleigh was consorting have disappeared from the scene in favour of more interesting characters. Apart from one or two episodes which seem almost irrelevant to the Hadleigh story, this series is very entertaining and gives a deeper insight into what makes him tick. What does come through is his genuine concern for the welfare of those less fortunate than himself. This is particulary apparent in the episode entitled 'Open Verdict'. It is also significant that many of those who share his privileged position do not share his concern, thus causing him considerable frustration.
Hadleigh's business concerns are uppermost in his mind, but there is also much time for romance and he is actually named as Co-Respondent in a divorce suit. Unfortunately, he cannot seem to make up his mind which girlfriend he prefers, so at the end of this series he loses them both.
Gerald Harper is very watchable, and some well-known actors and actresses of the period are featured including Mike Pratt, Hannah Gordon, Jane Merrow, Norman Bird and Peter Sallis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes me back.., 27 May 2014
This review is from: Hadleigh - Series 2 - Complete [1971] [DVD] (DVD)
Got this for my mother but have ended up watching it much more myself..I was 9 to 12 at the time, but bits of it come back to me. Great character that Hadleigh, it would be difficult to imagine anyone else playing him. A great SEXUAL FRISSON BETWEEN HIM AND HANNAH GORDON IN EPISODE 3 and 13, just had to watch the last bit of the final episode again! Episode 1perhaps a bit stilted for todays audience, and the 'trendy school' and 'MI5' ones a strange/out of context, and a pity there not all in colour. However, 5 stars!
