5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for fans, 26 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere [2DVD] [2011] (DVD)
A little heard of band with a large cult following, just try and buy something second hand on internet sites to fine out how popular!
Prog rock (no longer a dirty word) is alive with great song writing by Steven Wilson. Also check out Blackfield and his own solo releasers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why not in Blu ray??, 6 Aug 2013

Thank you Amazon. The item along with Anesthetize arrived albeit a week after it got delayed in dispatching. But never mind... I don't understand why is this not available in Blu ray? For those who are used to watching such stuff on Blu ray may not like the video quality, but then it is obviously compensated by phenomenally high standards of audio, especially if you have 5.1 surround and big LCD. This is guaranteed to keep you hooked, if you like good music. I will buy this again if it comes in Blu ray.

I bought this dvd on the recommendation of a friend and am glad that I did. If you like your rock music played with skill and a high level of musicianship, you should love this band. Give it a go. You will be pleasantly surprised.

A nice video show. For us, living in Brazil, that knows nothing about this band, it's an opportunity to see the performance of this band!

Really enjoyed this. The editing of the concert footage makes it a great watch, and the music, as ever with Porcupine Tree is superb. Sound quality over my system is good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evict the Label, 15 Sep 2006

Mr. Stephen Carr "Carlton Towers Cricket Club... (Carlton, Nr Goole, UK) - See all my reviews

Why is it necessary to attach a label to a band that deliver just pure enjoyment.

This is the first DVD from Porcupine Tree and has to be seen to be believed. Forget the boring progressive tag as this was just a phase and a label for the band that bears no resemblance to their work as seen on this output and which can be confined to the history books.

The concert was filmed in Chicago in October 2005 and is the ideal appetiser to the forthcoming series of live concerts in the UK.

This is a band that takes you to a higher level from the anthemic "Arriving somewhere.." from the deadwing album to a track I have not heard before "Buying new Soul" The performances from the band are exemplary and as is usual on Porcupine Tree live productions they are of an incredibly high standard. Just listen and watch "Hatesong" too and see at first hand the amazing performance from the impressive Steve Wilson. His Band compliment each other and with the addition of guitarist John Wesley, you certainly get value for money.

There are no gimmics here, just good, honest and what you see is what you get Porcupine Tree.

This is a band that is going places and taking us along with it too. Roll on the 2006 album, impatiently awaited.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar widdlers need not apply, 25 April 2009
This review is from: Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere [2DVD] [2011] (DVD)
Far too many supposed "progressive" bands these days are basically widdling metal heads who think that playing a scale quickly with some technical virtuosity is enough to make the average punter go..."wow"

Sadly, when it comes to most Dean toting teenage guitar wannabees , that`s true.
Dream theatre /Tool this is not.
Steven Wilson understands melody and harmony.
It is complex music and takes time and work to appreciate , but if you are prepared to put the effort in, put a couple of hundred quid to the side, as you will buy the PT back catalogue, plus Blackfield, No Man , Bass Communion, IEM, and Mr Wilson`s own excellent solo release, Insurgentes.

If you like Rush, Genesis, Camel etc you will love this.
If you like intelligent metal you also will.

If you are looking for widdly histrionics, go listen to Joe Satriani.Porcupine Tree - Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere [DVD] [2005]

It is criminal that this band is not the biggest band in the world. I pity all those poor people who are missing out on the Porcupine Tree. Ariving Somewhere is a classic track of ur time. Enjoy.
