I brought this product from Comet before Christmas for £99. I wish I waited until now as it is only £79 on Amazon - what a steal!
Am I bitter - not one bit - I can't believe it is not butter!
This product has all the features I would expect on a more expensive digital camera and the 12MP images I have taken are crisp and clear. I am surprised to see some of the negative reviews that have been posted and ss a users of professional DSLR cameras I am happy to use this as everyday slim and stylish camera. In my opinion this represents fantastic value for money!

I bought this camera before Christmas and have been really pleased with the pictures that I have had from it. The kids mode is my favorite and gives great pics even when the little ones are running around. Despite being small it feels remarkably tough and i now keep it in my pocket all the time. All my friends asked what camera i've got and at least 2 have bougth them since. I almost wish that i'd waited as i paid more than this. But then I wouldn't have got the great Christmas pics for my memories. Good one Pentax.

I was looking for an idiot proof camera which just takes pictures for me when I press one button, and can make me look like I know what I'm doing - good pictures. I got it. It's half the price of my previous 5MP camera, but much less flimsy and really small & easy to pocket. Only problem, my kids keep nicking it to take "clever shots" using the menu options. Maybe I should buy another...

This tiny camera really packs a punch with fantastic image quality and many of the same features that my larger camera has. I can and do take it everywhere with me and the long life lithium ion battery means my S12 is always ready to go! Great value for money when I purchased at £99 from Comet. Buy this product with confidence.

I bought this camera before the Christmas period after my Canon broke. I have to say I'm not sad about the Canon now as this is by far the best camera I have ever bought.

The picture quality is really good and I have experienced none of the problems some other reviewers have mentioned, and now had it for a while.

The appearance was the main attraction for me intially and it is great for fitting in a handbag or pocket for a night out.

But it backs this up with great photos and lots of easy-to-use features. A great one for people who don't like trawling through the manual!

Some of my friends have used it too and think it's a really good little camera.

I would definitely recommend to all who want a great compact.

UPDATE

I've just had the camera on a family holiday in France and now have experienced the same problems as Mike with the dark photos in certain light and aspect conditions.

There seems to be no predicting when this is going to happen.

Most of the shots have come out exceptionally well, but several are simply unacceptable.

Thank goodness I am still within my QVC return period.

Back to the drawing board and this time with more internet research.

ORIGINAL REVIEW

I also bought this as a qvc tsv (see Mike's 1 star review) and I totally disagree with him.

I've had a 2MP Optio for about 6 years now and it is only just starting to slightly misbehave, so I went for this significant upgrade. In light of Mike's comments I have been trying all sorts of shots to try to decide whether to keep or return.

So far I have to say this little compact camera has been so easy to use and the auto focus and auto exposure have been excellent. Maybe Mike changed some default settings or maybe he is too used to his other cameras, but if you're looking for some good all round performance then this is worth your attention.

The start up is remarkably quick, the (predominantly metal) body feels solid and well crafted without being too weighty. The 12MP images are very effective (although the default setting is about 66% optimum quality and totally auto focus so as to give good all round results). We tried it on our black pet cat - cropping and zooming the images on pc was really quite scary when all you could see was his bright yellow eyes filling the screen so crystal clear and in such hi-res.

Our old Pentax always gave us consistently crisp and clear images but until recargeable AA batteries improved the battery life was frustrating. This S12 now has a rechargeable and removable Lithium micro power pack which pops in alongside the SD card meaning that you can carry a charged spare in the unlikely event that you run out of juice when out and about.

There are around 12 shooting modes (e.g. auto, kids, sports, night, landscapes, flower close ups etc) each of which is designed to enable an amateur to produce really good shots. After all, that is the market they are clearly pitching to - and why not.

Today for example I tried the "kids" mode which is supposed to keep the focus on fidgeting children. It worked a treat - keeping focus on both my kids even when our four year old decided to bob up and down and strike a few unusual poses. Thank goodness for new technology.

I am not ashamed to say I know as little about the technical side of photography as I do about car engines, so why shouldn't I buy an easy to use point-and-shoot camera that gives me consistently great results.

Overall this is a great little package and at the moment (I've been trialling it for four days now) I am not following Mike in sending it back to qvc.

TOP 500 REVIEWERon 21 February 2009
Always a sucker for a bargain, I recently saw this 12 megapixel camera on offer at half price and couldn't resist.

It's an easy to use, pocket-sized 'point and shoot' camera that has some great features and it comes with a detailed manual which is over 200 pages long.

Although really compact its aluminium casing makes it feel quite solid and well built. I've taken pictures indoors and outside, and all have come out really well. Pictures of my dog are amazing when loaded onto my PC, I could see the individual hairs on his coat!

The 2.5 LCD display has anti-reflection coating which makes viewing photos easier in bright conditions. There's face recognition for up to 15 faces or you can focus on one individual face. The Digital Shake reduction works well and it has 21mb built in memory expandable with SD/SDHC card.

There are a number of different scene modes: Auto Picture, Program, Night Scene, Movie, Voice Recording, Landscape, Flower, Natural skin tone, Portrait, Half-length Portrait, Kids, Digital SR, Sport, Surf&Snow, Pet, Text, Food, Frame Composite, Green

The menus are well laid out and easy to use. You can just leave it in the 'Auto picture' mode and it will automatically select the best shooting settings or if you want to play around with the settings there are more options that most of us would ever want.

Once you've taken your pictures there a number of editing options available in playback mode some examples are resizing, cropping, colour filters, brightness adjustment, red eye removal. With the digital filter you can even slim or widen an image - no longer need to diet for the hols - just doctor the photos when you get back and instantly look as slim as you want to!

So far I've not had any of the problems that some other reviewers have mentioned. Although I'd be the first to admit I'm no expert, the quality looks pretty good to me. Should I experience any problems in the future I'll update this review.

OMG...This is an easy to use point and press camera - yet SOOOOO much more! I am not the brightest spark when it comes to gadgets so this little camera is perfect for me, yet my son has used some of its many settings and produced fantastic effects (I'm sure he'll show me how one day)!
It's small, compact and perfect to use - whatever skill level you are...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!!!!! 10/10.

I can believe the bargain i got with this camera, £69.99 in the sale, that is much cheaper than alot of the 10MP cameras! comes with a rechargeble battery that has a really good battery life on it! The picture quality is great and this is a very simple camera to operate. I would recomend this strongly!
