4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
Firstly, it's not fair to give this film a 1 star review based on the fact you've received the wrong product. You can't review a film until you've seen it. End of.

Now, on to my review and, rest assured, I have seen the film! Ratman is trash. Pure and simple. But it's the very best kind of trash there is. It's sleaze, silliness and gore with ropey special...

Warbeck wanders through some trash laden scenarios with a female who is looking for her sister, who likes to model in distant places...but wait! A terrible half man half rat had escaped! And he seems to be angry, hungry & not surprisingly a bit of a nibbler.

The film is delightfully bad. A shower sequence could have ended quite rapidly, but didn't, lets take...

The film is delightfully bad. A shower sequence could have ended quite rapidly, but didn't, lets take the camera all over again and again, just for coverage...The script may be laughable, the acting generally poor, even Warbeck is doing a bit 'more' than is necessary. Yet if you can forgive the slowness of the enterprise it could be entertaining, as a retro throwback.

However, the picture quality is pretty much not what you would call impressive. There is a slight warning/reminder at the start of the film that it's the best found. Hmm. Ok. A soft vhs'esque to the wishy-washy colours is retro and nostalgic at least.

Now, on to my review and, rest assured, I have seen the film! Ratman is trash. Pure and simple. But it's the very best kind of trash there is. It's sleaze, silliness and gore with ropey special effects and even ropier acting. The results should be horrible but, somehow they just aren't. Instead, Ratman is like a love letter to trash cinema and manages to be the funniest thing ever.

I should mention that the picture quality on this releases isn't mind-blowing. Apparently the only print Shameless could get hold of was in terrible condition but they have done the best they possibly could. It's nowhere near up to the standards of their excellent release of The Frightened Woman but, in a film this trashy, grainy picture only adds to the effect!

If you're not a fan of trash cinema, avoid at all costs, but, if you like a bit of so-bad-it's-good-action then you can't get much better than Ratman!

Warning! This film comes complete with gratuitous nude shower scene!

A monkey/rat hybrid creature escapes from its cage and goes on a murderous rampage, offing many scantily clad women and a few bad actors as well. Luckily American mystery writer Fred Williams(played by British national treasure David Warbeck) is at hand to do a bit of amateur sleuthing.
The worlds smallest actor Nelson De La Rosa plays Ratman with a set of Ken Dodd gnashers, and Ratman is an amazingly prolific serial killer, jumping on unsuspecting victims from the tops of wardrobes or from inside a fridge.
This film really is pretty bad, but is so enjoyable, you can wallow in the bad acting and ludicrous story without feeling a twinge of guilt. You will probably be asking by the end why they didnt just set a trap for the bloody rodent
I could really have just saved a couple of paragraphs, and just told you to go out and buy this immediatly. Otherwise your life will not be complete. Top exploitation fare. 4 out of 5

4.0 out of 5 stars Is It A Rat? Is It A Monkey? No, It's An Amalgamation Of The Two, Obviously., 22 Feb 2011

'Ratman' is about a rat/monkey hybrid who escapes out of his cage and terrorizes a Caribbean island, the hybrid comes about in order for its creator to win the Nobel prize though how amalgamating a rat and a chimp leads to winning one is beyond me but that's mad scientists for you.
It's a pretty trashy film with atrocious dubbing and dodgy 80s music but it is hugely enjoyable trash full of 'bad taste, worse acting, needless nudity and tense wince inducing slaughter' to quote the back cover, the little fella (Nelson De La Rosa) who plays Ratman has a certain something in his scenes as he zips from one end of the island faster than a 747.
There's laughs, some intentional, some not, there's an inadvertent Village People joke that tickled me and a warning about the perils of a pearl necklace which I think we can all learn from.
If you own the odd Shameless release, (I'd recommend 'The New York Ripper') and have any kind of interest in low budget exploitation films of the past, I'd urge you to see this because seeing is believing.
